11 NARRATIVE

CHAPTER 11

I knock on my aunts
door as it starts to
rain. A few seconds
later the door opens
to my aunt who
opens her arms for
a hug.

"Come here and
meet Paul and Ali."
She says as we
head to the dining
room.

I shake both their
hands and sit down
at my usual spot at
the table.

Ali looks to be about
16, and she seems
nice but we'll see.

"Neels will be here
in a few." Auntie
says to me before
going back into the
kitchen.

"I think I've seen you
on tiktok." Ali states.

"Oh yeah." I shrug
feeling a little
awkward with the
new people.

"We should make
tiktoks after dinner."
Ali suggests.

"We can do it now
dinner doesn't
seem ready." I reply
even though I don't
really want to make
tiktoks right now.

The two of us go up
into my bedroom
and I wait for her to
say some.

"We can do a dance
or you know." She
suggests with a
shrug showing some
she has saved.

"I don't really do the
dances but we can
try." I chuckle.

We quickly learn
one of the new
dances and feel
confident enough
to make the tiktok.

"Is it okay if I post
it?" She asks as
we watch over it.

"Sure." I shrug with
a small chuckle.

"What's your at?"
She questions as
she tries to tag me.

"It's just jesenia." I
answer as I watch
her type it in. At
least she knows
how to spell.

She posts it and
follows me, most
likely expecting me
to follow her back,
which I will.

"Guys come
downstairs!" My
aunt yells for us.

We race downstairs
to see the food is
ready and my
brother in my spot.

"Hey." I say quietly
and nervously to
my brother.

"Hey." He says back
with a wave seeming
nervous too.

Everyone finishes
dinner now we can
all finally excuse
ourselves from the
table.

I'm just anxiously
waiting to talk to
Neels.

"Can we talk?" I
ask my brother as
we walk out of the
kitchen.

"Sure." He answers
as I drag him into
another room.

"I fucking missed
you, and I'm lowkey
upset that aunt
knew you were
back before I did."
I state as I start
feeling emotional.

"I was nervous so
I pushed it aside."
He admits.

"Why did you even
leave? I have so
many questions for
you." I query.

"Well for one I was
18 so I was allowed
to leave. I also
graduated early."
He starts.

"But why did you
leave without saying
goodbye? Does this
mean our aunt knew
the whole time?" I
question.

Sighing Neels
answers, "She didn't
know either, I mean
she knew I was
to graduate early but
I didn't tell anyone I
was leaving."

I look at the ground
slightly getting
agitated that he is
avoiding the
important question
of why he left.

"And I left with my
now ex girlfriend
who is psycho." He
adds.

"Still kind of
confused but okay.
You left and pretty
much ghosted
everyone because
you ran away with
a girl?"

"She lied and said
she was pregnant,
so I moved away
with her. Later on
found out she was
lying, but I didn't
have any money to
get back home, until
a couple of months
ago." My brother
explains.

I try to take in what
he just said, must've
been emotionally
draining for him.

"Oh shit I'm sorry."
I frown before
hugging my brother
for the first time in
years.

My phone rings as
I sit in my car about
to leave my aunts
house.

"Hey why are you
calling?"I question
Vinnie who
randomly called me.

"Everyone is coming
over right now and
I was just trying to
be nice and see if
you're coming."
Vinnie states kind
of quietly.

"When he makes
excuses to talk to
you." I joke.

"I guess I just can't
be nice." Vinnie
says clearly
mocking me from
the other day.

I roll my eyes and
laugh it off still
deciding if I should
go or not.

"I would come but
I've been at my
aunts for the last
4 hours and I want
to go home and
sleep." I chuckle.

"Oh right, did it go
well?" He asks
even though he
probably doesn't
care.

"Yeah it was a little
awkward at first but
it went well." I shrug.

Vinnie's end is silent
until you hear one
of the boys saying,
"You're still talking to
her?"

"I gotta go." Vinnie
laughs awkwardly
before hanging up.

NOTES
Sorry there isn't much
conversation
between Vinnie and Jess.

Their growth is meant to be slow
just wait a couple of chapters
