Chapter Seventy Seven

"Hey sensei! Where have you been?" Naruto asked as you returned to the clearing.

"Uh... around town?" You replied awkwardly. It didn't seem exactly appropriate for you to tell your students you had run off looking for birth control.

"Is everything alright, (Y/N)?" Kakashi asked.

You nodded. "I'm fine. Sorry for running off like that."

Kakashi's gaze lingered and you smiled in reassurance. "Do we need to talk?" He asked.

"Uh oh..." Naruto nudged Sasuke in the arm. "They're gonna have a talk."

The dark haired boy scowled. "What does that even mean???"

"It means that you should all take a quick break and reconvene here in fifteen." Kakashi corralled your students towards the camp.

Before walking off with his teammates, Naruto turned around and wiggled his eyebrows. "Have fun, senseis."

Your nose twitched in irritation and you had half the mind to chuck a rock at his smug whiskered face.

But he seemed to sense the violence radiating off you because he hightailed it back towards camp, catching up with Sasuke and Sakura.

"(Y/N)?"

You turned to find Kakashi leaning against a tree, his mask pulled below his chin. "Is everything okay?"

You blew out a breath, walking towards him. "I really am fine. I just... had an emergency..."

The silvered haired man pushed off the tree. "Emergency? What happened?" He grasped your shoulders, examining you for wounds.

You brushed him off. "It's nothing. I'm okay now. Shizune helped me fix things."

"Shizune?" Kakashi ran a hand through his hair. "I'm glad you got a medical professional, but why didn't you tell me? Or the team?"

You bit your lip. "I panicked. I needed to get to her as soon as possible... and I didn't want to worry you."

The man grunted. "Worry me? The fact that you still won't open up to me worries me." He crossed his arms. "You can't do everything alone!"

"I know that!" You pinched the bridge of your nose. "I know, Kakashi. But I can handle myself."

The silver haired man gave a weak smile. "I know you can. Trust me I understand. I've seen how strong you are."

Strong arms enveloped you. "You've spent your whole life alone, fending for yourself. But it's time that you open up and trust us. You don't have to carry this burden by yourself."

You sighed in content, wrapping your arms around Kakashi's waist. You could stay like this forever, safe in his gentle embrace.

But he was right- and you knew it. You... didn't want to be alone. You wanted to open up. But... it was hard... it would take a lot of work. People didn't just change overnight.

"Kakashi?"

"Hmm?"

"I went to Shizune for birth control."

The man stiffened. Slowly, he peeled you away. He locked eyes with you, hands still on your shoulders. "(Y/N)... are you pregnant?"

You analyzed his expression. Fear. Hope. Worry.

You cupped his cheek. "No..." You smiled gently. "I didn't think we were ready."

"Yet?" He murmured almost inaudibly.
