A day, a week, a month, a year. You didn't know how much time had passed, or if time here correlated with time in the real world. All you knew was endless, agonizing, pain.

In this world, you lived in your family's home, the one your parents had raised you in. Every morning, they woke you up and you ate breakfast together. You laughed and smiled and felt utter joy. Then at the end of every breakfast, they came.

They killed your father first. Then your mother. Then they carved you up, ever so slowly.

Somehow, you never died. They were able to keep you alive and fully conscious until the very end.

The end. Who knew you could meet it so many times. It was usually slow and painful.

Every time, right before death's sweet embrace, a voice rattled through your brain.

"You're my little puppet now."

And then you were gone. Only to wake up in your bed and start the process again.

You eventually got used to the schedule, got used to watching your parents die every morning. You became numb to it. But no matter how hard you tried to ignore the torture, it always found a way to make you scream in pain.

So much pain. And it was all in your head.

*~*

"Kakashi..." She groaned out as she writhed on the floor. She always had a name on her lips when the cutting reached its peak. Sometimes it was Haru, that boy she had tried to befriend. Once, it was Sana, her mother. Such sad, broken, hopeless cries.

I gritted my teeth, narrowing my focus further. I had to make it hurt. Had to make sure it looked like it hurt...

"How's our Violet Phantom doing?"

Fox. I learned to recognize all of their voices. Had ever since they took my eyes away and I learned to live without them until Sana's took their place.

As if in response, (Y/N) convulsed, arms twitching as her eyes rolled in the back of her head.

Fox chuckled. "Funny thing isn't it? She promised to carve us, the Council, up. But here she is, facing the same torture she insisted we would endure. What a foolish little girl."

As always, I didn't answer.

They all thought I was mute. And stupid.

"Fuyu dear. You really should take a break soon." Fingertips brushed my neck and it took all my effort not to flinch. To keep my grip on (Y/N)'s mind.

Fox continued to pet me. "I have to get going now, I'll check up on you later."

I listened to the Council member stand up and leave the cell. "You, come with me. " She commanded coldly. Another set of footsteps resounded as they both faded away.

I let out the slightest sigh. She had taken the Nightmare guarding over this process with her. I was finally alone.

"No..." (Y/N) cried out.

I looked down at her, at the sweat on her brow and the tears streaming out of her eyes. So much pain. And all my fault.

I reached towards her, fingertips brushing a strand of hair out of her eyes. She didn't seem to notice.

"Release." I whispered, deactivating my Hikarigan.

Nothing happened.

Really now? Trying to break the rules are we?
