You pulled the fluffy and familiar fabric closer to you as you tried to drift off into a different world. A better world. One where people's children don't just die at their jobs.
I wasn't good enough. I wasn't attentive, I was so fucking stupid. How could I? Why couldn't it have been me instead? These words keep roaming your mind. But God, they're just so true. Having a child was the best thing that ever happened to you but then life just had to take her away. You can still smell the fresh pizza and feel the strange weight of the air around you.
You were in William's office, reviewing some accounts when it happened. His grave face and blue eyes refusing to meet your E/C.
"William?"
He just stood in front of you and hugged you.
"Don't go out there Y/N," he whispered.
"Why not? You're scaring me Will," you chuckled awkwardly.
He just sat on the desk and sighed.
"D/N is dead, Y/N. They couldn't save her. I'm so sorry."
You laughed again.
"What do you mean? D/N's okay. Right? She was just playing with Elizabeth! She can't be!"
He tried to hug you again but you wanted to see this for yourself.
You knew it was true, but fuck does the truth hurt sometimes. And it is so much easier to accept things on our terms and not the cruel world's.Fuck, you don't even want to remember the sight of them carrying her out.
Them not letting you touch her.✫
Somehow you had made it out of bed. You were now throwing on that black coat from your old college days. The elegant one that was still in tip top shape.
Shamelessly, you hid a flask in one of the pockets. 'It's for the cold.' , you reassured yourself but you know that it isn't.William stood leaning on his dark hued car. Elizabeth in the backseat with her brothers. You couldn't help but smile at the sight of him. Even throughout all of this, he just seemed so bright. This man who has experienced loss himself and is still standing here and being responsible for three other lives. He's just so admirable and a pillar of light. You sighed and hugged him before getting into the car. He felt so real. So warm and scented like freshly tumbled sheets and a dash of bread.
"Good Morning Y/N."
"Morning," you mumbled into his body as you just held him.
"Ready?"
You nodded but you knew you weren't.
You can't just say goodbye to her forever. Especially so recently.
You pulled away from him and tried to smile.
He smiled at you instead and wiped your eyes.
He leaned his forehead down to yours,
"Hey, it's going to be okay. You'll be okay. You're not saying goodbye just yet. We're just making sure that her bed is cozy. " He whispered. You felt the tears come again and he brought you to his chest.
"It's okay Y/N. You're so strong and I'm here for you."514 mots.
Also, D/N is daughter's name.
