"Mr. Afton?" The teacher peeked her head out into the hallway, hoping that she was on her last leg of parents.
Today the students didn't have school, but that itself didn't mean that the teachers didn't have to come into work. It was a parent-teacher conference day. The first one that Y/N had ever done, actually.
It was her first year as a full-fledged teacher and she was quite excited and eager about it. So much so that she chose to be a middle school teacher before anything else. She ignored every warning her peers and own professors had given her.
Boy, did she really fucking regret it.
Middle schoolers are the worst.
She decided to be a teacher because she wanted to positively impact and enrich children's lives. Teaching was the perfect and stable job for her, so of course she became one; a history teacher to be precise.
There were two men in the hallway. She could faintly tell whose parents they were but had little to no knowledge on anything else about them.
The paler of the two men stood up, regarding her with a smile. So this was the infamous Michael Afton's father, huh? She expected him to be...different. He had distinct blue eyes and looked like everything a business man should aspire to be. And from what the teacher had heard, he was the business man. A handsome one at that too.
"See you Will," The last man in the hallway waved at the tall man who smiled in return and also waved.
Once inside his smile slipped, his face was now stoic and emotionless. It was as if someone had painted the canvas of a Monet white.
Y/N was guessing that he was an emotionally unavailable father. That would certainly make sense and serve as an explanation for Michael's mischievous and attention-seeking behavior.
"I don't believe we've meet before. You're new." The tall man stated rather than observed.
"I could say the same to you too, Mr. Afton." Y/N offered a curt smile as she sat at her desk and gestured for him to sit across from her.
He nodded and sat.
"William is fine, we're both equals aren't we?" He stuck his hand out in a handshake.
"What would make you think that we're not, William?" The teacher matched the man's hand and shook it firmly.
He pulled away first, his blue eyes boring into her.
"I don't believe I caught your name?" His long fingers pulled a cigarette from his shirt pocket. He settled it between his lips.
This would be one long conference, Y/N thought to herself. Poor Michael for having to deal with this man every day and night.
"Y/N L/N. I'd prefer it if you didn't smoke in my classroom William," The teacher forced a smile onto her face so as to not seem too harsh.
In return the man produced a lighter from his pocket and lit the cigarette.
"I'm stressed right now darling. Besides you can open a window. Can't you?" He took a long drag from the cig and tilted his head to the side when he exhaled.
He clearly was a man who was used to getting what he wanted. That really ticked Y/N off. If he wanted to play games, then she would also play.
"I'm a little stressed too, sugar-baby-love. Can't you open the window?" She scowled, resting her face on her palm, as she leaned forward onto the desk.
