"(F/n)-san, new patient for you," Takao said as he handed me a thick file, his eyes gleaming.

I stretched, wincing slightly at the soreness of my muscles and smiled as I took it from him. "Thanks Takao." It had taken me a while to get used to his new appearance from the last time I saw him but now I could look into his bronze mechanical eyes confidently, the same eyes he prized for his Hawk Eye and the ones that Midorima himself operated on to save his best friend's eyesight.

"You're welcome!" He turned to leave my office, most likely to check in on his next patient while I sighed, looking down at the new file in my hand. Working in the Sakai General Hospital was hard labour but it was very rewarding with every patient I helped, and I knew it was the same for both Takao and Midorima who had been working here for much longer than I had.

I started skimming through the file, checking what had to be done if I was handed this patient. While Takao and Midorima assisted patients with their health and performed surgeries, I engineered prosthetics for patients who were lacking certain body parts or had ones that didn't work at all. This one seemed to be missing over half his leg, from his foot to just above his knee.

Huh, that's something I haven't done in a while, I thought. I wonder what happened?

I kept reading through as I grabbed the items I needed from my work station in the back of my office. Midorima had complained that my workplace was a hazardous mess, but all I told him was that it was a very organized hazardous mess that only I could navigate through, so he better not touch anything or ask someone to clean it up.

I made my way to the patient's room and knocked on the door before walking in. I honestly wasn't sure what kind of person I was expecting. Certainly not the handsome young man sitting in a wheelchair near his hospital bed, a baby pink blanket draped over his lap. Realizing that I didn't know his name—it was a bad habit of mine when reading files to skip the patient's name—I checked back at the file. "Kiyoshi Teppei?"

The man smiled kindly at me. "That's me."

"I'm (L/n) (F/n)," I introduced myself. "I'm in charge of making your prosthetic. I'll be examining your other leg to make it."

"It's nice to meet you," Kiyoshi said.

"You too." I smiled back at him and pulled out my notepad and measuring tape while he set his blanket aside back on his bed. I knelt down next to him to start examining his right leg; it was his left that needed the prosthetic. He was very well built and I could feel the strength in his muscles. Did he used to play a sport? But then what did he do in order to get half his leg cut off?

"May I ask what happened?" I asked him hesitantly. "I mean, the report always says such technical things. I know you had a successful surgery in America for your knee but then scar tissue built up and blocked your arteries so Midorima amputated your leg. But what happened?" I realized I was rambling and blushed, hastily adding, "Sorry, I know it's a sensitive topic. You must have been through a lot. If you don't want to explain then I understand. I'm only your engineer, not your therapist."

Kiyoshi chuckled, which only made me blush more. "It's alright, I don't mind."

And so I stayed quiet, running my hands over Kiyoshi's leg to feel every muscle and took measurements along as he explained his story. He started with Shōei, his junior high school and told me about his knee injury and his passion for basketball. Then he went on to Seirin, and he talked about them for a long time. He winced when he came up to match against Kirisaki Daiichi in his first year and I felt a flash of anger at those people I never met for injuring such a kind person as him. But he spoke mostly fondly about his teammates and told me of their first year duo: Kuroko and Kagami. He practically glowed with pride when he got to the Winter Cup and his rematch with Kirisaki Daiichi, and the matches against Shutoku, Tōō, Yosen, Kaijo and finally Rakuzan.
