The school bell rang to signify the end of our last class. I sighed in relief after the grueling lesson and work my teacher had given the class. It was a shame that my least favourite class had to be my last one.

"You wanna come with us to the park?" My best friend asked, turning to me as we packed our things away and put on our jackets.

I shook my head as I slung my backpack on. "I might join you guys later. I want to go to the library first."

"Didn't you go yesterday though?" He/She recalled as we walked out of the classroom and through the halls.

I felt blood rush to my cheeks and looked away in embarrassment. That was true. "Yeah but. . ." I tried to think of a convincing lie. "I have a book that I forgot to pick up. It's the last day today and I don't want to reorder it."

He/She nodded in understanding, believing that what I said was true. "Makes sense. Alright, see ya."

We turned in opposite directions at the corner of the school, him/her crossing the street and me walking down the length of the school. I felt my steps become faster and lighter. I'd be there soon enough.

The library came into view just moments later. The black fence surrounding it stood tall and sharp, as if warding off unwelcome guests and protecting the precious books inside.

Gently, I opened the door and was hit by a sudden coolness from the air conditioned building. It was a nice relief from the warm sun outside. One of the librarians looked up from the help desk at my arrival and gave me a smile. I smiled back at her, feeling a bit awkward and quickly made my way towards the back of the library, passing by the reserved shelf without a second glance at it. That's not what I came for.

I ducked into one of the narrow aisles, the shelves looming around me and seeming to suck me in as I stepped into the aisle. The musky scent of paper and dust started to fill my nose now that I was closer to the books. Eagerness replaced my shyness and I bounded forward to the back edge of the shelf, my eyes instantly locking on what I wanted.

He was here. He always was.

I crouched down and gingerly tugged the book out, admiring the cover fondly. No matter how many times I saw it, it always made me smile. A sense of peace filled me as I gazed at the boy on the cover, staring back at me with large baby blue eyes.

"Hi Kuroko. . ." I murmured softly, rubbing my thumb against his cheek.

"Hello (F/n)-chan. How are you?" He replied back, blinking at me with his curious eyes. He was sitting down next to me, his back resting against the opposite bookshelf and his legs crossed.

"I'm good. How are you doing?" I asked, smiling at him.

Kuroko nodded with a small smile. "I'm fine too. I just finished practice with the team."

"How are they?" I wanted to know about the team, even if I did just speak to them yesterday.

"They're all working hard," he told me. "Kiyoshi-senpai has been needing to rest more often though. He's pushing himself a bit too hard."

"He'll be okay, right?" I asked worriedly. "I don't want him to get injured again."

Before Kuroko could answer, I heard a deeper voice from his other side. "Oi, is that you (F/n)?"

"Kagami!" I exclaimed happily.

The redhead leaned over Kuroko so he could see me properly and smiled. "Hey (F/n), good to see you again."

"You too Kagami." I smiled back.

"We've seen you practicing basketball. You're not half bad." He teased gently. "Izuki said that he's impressed with your dribbling."
