Students crowded into the hallway as the school bell rang throughout the university, signaling for everyone to get to their next class. I strode purposefully to my biochemistry class, my studious friend Midorima Shintaro by my side. Both of us had met in our first year of college and we stayed firm friends ever since, especially since we had the same major in mind.

I didn't know Midorima before he came to Tokyo Medical University but he did open up to me about his interest in basketball he catered to in his middle and high school years. His friend Takao who I was introduced to a few months later told me extravagant stories about their basketball matches during their time at Shutoku High, recalling Midorima's incredible abilities and the attention he gained at the sport.

But here in medical school, people couldn't care less that Midorima was a basketball star. Only a few whispers roamed the school from boys who recognized him but to most people he was just Midorima, the nerdy and slightly weird horoscope addicted med student. According to Takao, Midorima smiled a little more often now and seemed to be more relaxed at college. My guess was because he didn't have the attention following him that he was able to loosen up more.

We turned the corner and I collided into someone's chest, the impact making me stumble backwards. A hand grabbed my arm and steadied me. "I'm terribly sorry," an extremely familiar voice said.

"Ishida?!" I exclaimed, ripping my arm away from him. I snatched my fallen bag up from the ground, still staring in surprise at the boy who I hadn't seen in years.

"(F-F/—" Ishida started to say but I glared at him. He gulped and collected himself properly. "(L/n)."

"You know him?" Midorima asked, glancing at me with a raised eyebrow.

I tried my best to keep from sighing. How on earth did this happen? "Midorima, my ex-boyfriend, Ishida. Ishida, this is my friend Midorima."

"You seem to be doing well," Ishida said, a small smile on his face as he looked me over. I took my own time to examine him too from the last time I had seen him. His glasses were slightly different: more rectangular and framed with grey alongside all of the edges. His hair was cut shorter though he still had that same parting on the side, his bangs falling against the side of his face like always.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, ignoring his comment. "I thought you didn't want to be a doctor."

Ishida's face went solemn. "I changed my mind. It's what I'm destined to do." But then he smiled again as he raised his eyes to meet mine again. "I'm glad I finally get to see you again."

Damn his eyes. Those same ice blue eyes I fell in love with years ago. A sudden memory surfaced in my mind. It was a few months after we got together. We'd been studying in the library for an oral speech in our English Language class and I kept having trouble keeping eye contact with him.

"Why do you keep looking away from me?" He had asked, sighing as I recited the speech once again with minimal eye contact. What kind of assignment had keeping eye contact as a requirement for the grade anyway?

"It's not my fault," I had huffed. I slumped on the table and rested my chin on the hard surface. "It's your eyes."

"My eyes?"

"Mhm. It's like you're staring into my soul and if I look into your eyes long enough then I'll get lost in them."

Just like right now, his beautiful eyes were staring deep into my soul, judging me and the hate he earned in my heart. I broke eye contact first and looked down at my feet. All of those good memories were nothing compared to what he did to our friends. What he did to me.
