I grabbed my phone when I heard it rang. When I looked at the caller’s name my smile immediately escape.
“Yes M?” I kindly ask. My brows furrowed when I heard her heavy breathing over the line.
“God Eury! I’m at the hospital now!” Wika n’ya habang humahangos.
“Of course you’re a nurse,” I bluntly answered, hitting the humor button.
“Nah, that’s not what I mean. Si mang Erwin!” Confusion got me when I heard mang Erwin’s name.
“Bakit anong nangyari?”
“Isinugod ko s’ya sa ospital kanina’ng madaling-araw. Heart attack,” my fingers trailed up to my lips portraying that I’m surprised with the news and at the same time worried.
“How is he?”
“His vital signs are doing good now, I just called to tell you,” she uttered. Napahinga ako nang maluwag sa sinabi n’ya. I thought I’ll loose a father again.
“Can I talk to him?” M heave a deep sigh over the line.
“He’s still sleeping Ry, I’ll just call you when he’s awake,” wika n’ya dahilan para bumuntong-hininga na lang ako. I glanced at my wristwatch and it’s already five in the morning. My schedules are tight now, I can’t go to Cebu. But I’m worried about Mang Erwin.
“Alright just ring me out okay? I have to go M,” paalam ko sa kan’ya.
“Got it. Take care Eury I love you,” she uttered sweetly, causing the corners of my lips to wrinkle forming into a smile.
“I do too M,” sinsero kong wika bago pinutol ang tawag.
“Let’s go ma’am,” tumango na lang ako kay Emmanuel. Bago pa man ako tuluyang maka-akyat sa loob ng eroplano ay tumunog na naman ang cellphone ko hudyat na may tumatawag na naman.
“Baby?” General Andervano’s voice greeted my ears.
“Yes?” Tipid kong sagot.
“Where are you?” He inquired.
“I’m a about to go.”
“Oh shit!” Pagmumura n’ya habang rinig ko ang biglaang pagbilis ng takbo ng kotse.
“And don’t you dare to come here. Styyx focus on your work okay?” ma-awtoridad kong wika. Pagdating sa mga bagay na ito ay gayon na lamang katigas ang ulo n’ya.
“But baby ---“ I cutted his words off.
“Please don’t make this a big deal,” I heard him heave a sigh over the line.
“Alright I won’t come. Did you wear the earpods I gave you last night?” He asked. I nodded in his words not minding the fact that he’s not able to see it. Hawak ko pa lang ang lalagayan ng earpods na binigay n’ya at hindi ko pa ito suot.
“Yes I will.”
“Good girl,” he complimented.
“I have to go Styyx,” paalam ko sa kan’ya. Ngunit bago ko pa man maibaba ang tawag ay narinig ko pa s’yang nagsalita.
“I’ll give an eye on you baby. Tell me when something happens, and please don’t do stupid things,” I squinted my eyes heavenward when I heard his last words.
“Copy baby,” masuyo kong wika. Sumenyas si Zalysha sa ‘kin na aalis na kami kaya’t nagpaalam na ako sa kan’ya.
“I’ll go ahead Styyx.”
“Alright I love you take care baby,” he sweetly answered. And with it I ended the call. Nang makaupo na ako ay doon ko na isinuot ang ibinigay niya sa ‘king panibagong earpods. I feel guilty when I threw the first one he gave me. I didn’t know that it was his own invention, and I just threw it.
