Your reply was quick, Sounds good, I need a break from writing. See you there <3 Jay sighed and ran a hand down his face. The rest of Intelligence began to go back to work quickly, conversations were held in hurried whispers. Voight entered with the room with Platt both noticed the change in atmosphere, they shared a look. Platt went back down the stairs, concerned about the change in the air but not wanting to get involved. Voight just shook his head; he wasn't going to get involved unless he needed to.

Your hand hovered the bag that concealed Jay's birthday present, the same bag that Hailey and Kim had seen you take from the young man. The pinging of your phone reminded you to leave to meet Jay, it was a text from Will telling you he was free to meet up anytime to grab the present from you. Picking it up you headed out the door and to Molly's.

It was early and Molly's wasn't quite open yet. You pushed the door open; it was pretty much empty Hermann and Stella hadn't arrived yet or were out it was hard to tell. The Intelligence were sitting around, mostly in the background. Hailey and Jay were sitting closer to the door. Your brows furrowed, "hey guy's, what's going on?"

Hailey stepped forwards as you placed the heavy bag onto the nearest chair. "We want to know what's going on?" You raised a brow, confused, "with?" You drew out the word. "You and Jay." Frowning, you stepped forwards, "what do you mean?" Hailey sighed, "we think that you are using Jay." A disbelieving scoff passed your lips, "I'm not using Jay." Hailey stood straighter, "really, well you what jet off after his father dies to further your own career rather than help him through it. You're what famous, and your dating a cop? How does work?" You drew in a heavy breath, "I stayed as long as I could and helped Jay. I got the opportunity I've waited my entire life for, I was ready to throw it all away, to help Jay. He's the one who told me to go. As for the whole famous person dating someone else. Who the hell cares about that? Shouldn't it matter more that I care about him, that I'm actually falling for him. You think that I'm using him? Why the hell would I do that?" Hailey shrugged, "a little excitement maybe, I mean you are cheating on him."

That statement hung in the air for a few seconds, you were thrown by it. "What?" Hailey took another step forward, you didn't move. "We saw you, talking to him in Molly's, he handed you a piece of paper with his number. You kissed Jay afterwards, how could you do that? Kim and I saw you with him again today. He gave you a gift, and you kissed him! You think we wouldn't protect Jay, after everything." Hailey's quiet rage was mirrored in the Intelligence unit, Jay however, simply had devastation beginning to show in his eyes. It took a moment for Hailey's accusation to sink in, as it did you looked over at the rest of Intelligence who were all giving you hard looks. You looked at Jay, who wouldn't look at you, let alone meet your eyes. You sighed, your voice went deadly calm, "That man you saw me with is my brother, the piece of paper he handed me was a quote with specifications and additional information. You see, my brother is a horologist, meaning he is a clock maker. That gift he gave me, is actually a gift but it's not for me, it's for Jay and Will. Really Jay's more than Will's, if you ask Will." Reaching into the bag, you pulled out a beautifully ornate old-fashioned styled miniature grandfather clock, which had a repaired wedding photo encased in glass at the front, there were spaces either side; one had Will graduating from medical school and the other had Jay in his Rangers uniform. Jay's jaw dropped and the air was shimmering with emotion. You sighed again lightly, "Will asked for my help, he knew my brother fixed clocks. He was with us in Molly's before he decided to flirt with Natalie at the bar once the meeting was done and my brother and I were catching up. It works now, ticks steadily and chimes on the hour, once you wind it up," You faced Hailey, pettiness filling your blood. "I wonder if you can help with that, you are good at winding people up." Looking over at the bar, you met Jay's shocked gaze. "Happy birthday, Jay." You left the paper bag and grabbed your purse turning to leave, everyone was too shocked to stop you. Pausing at the doorway, you turned. "You know this whole Intelligence thing is impressive, but next time go the distance and get all the information before you ambush someone. Just a bit of advice." Shrugging you stepped out into the cold autumn air and began to allow your tears to surface, you stalked off; tears growing in your eyes leaving ticking silence in your wake.

After you had left the bar, the silence was broken by Ruzek pronouncing that that they had royally screwed up, though he said it more colourfully. Jay stood up and made his way over to the grandfather clock. His hand hovered over the stained wood, his fingers brushed over the twists and knots in the wood. His index finger brushed over his parent's wedding photo, lightly going over their faces. "I thought this was destroyed in the fire." His voice was an awed whisper. He jerked away from it towards the door, he threw it open, but he was met with an empty street. He turned back and placed the clock into the paper bag, you had left behind. Jay opened the door and left his team behind.

You sat on the couch in your apartment where the room had steadily darkened, you hadn't moved since getting home from Molly's. Your coat and shoes were strewn at the end of the couch. There was a buzzing from your phone, checking it was Sylvie if you were coming to Molly's. You shot off a reply, that you weren't free tonight. Standing you hung up your coat and shoes before turning on the lights. Sighing you ran a hand down your face, moving to your bedroom; you changed into something more comfortable. Your hand had hovered over one of Jay's t-shirts that you usually wore but the betrayal and heartbreak made more tears fall so you pulled on one of yours.

Moving back into your lounge you decided that you felt like getting lost in a fantasy world. Running your finger along the spines of DVDs you had one stood out. You pulled out The Hobbit: Unexpected Journey it was just what you needed to feel better or at least dull the aching. Just before you pressed play and the movie was on the opening menu, there was a knock on your door. You muted the music and went to answer it. Your check of the peephole showed it was Jay, he had the paper bag by his side. Sighing you opened the door enough so that he could see you but wasn't open enough to let him in. "Jay." You said his name coolly. "I'm sorry." You raised an eyebrow, your eyes were still red, and you were sure he could see them, "I'm sure." He looked at you, pleading in his sea green eyes. "Can we talk?" You opened the door wider and stepped back into your lounge, Jay followed you shutting the door behind him.

You sat on your couch after turning off your tv, Jay sat beside you. He carefully placed the paper bag down. "I want to apologize, I'm sorry about what happened. You should never have experienced that." It seemed as though Jay didn't know what to say in this situation. "Thank you for getting the grandfather clock repaired, I can't tell you what it means to me." You sighed, "Jay, I understand what it may have looked like, but you or anyone else in Intelligence could have asked. It's not like I have never mentioned him before, I even have photos throughout my apartment." You waved your hand to prove your point. Jay nodded, "I'm sorry, Y/N. Is there any way you can forgive me? Will you be able to trust me?" You sighed, dropping your head before looking back up, "Jay, I forgive you, whether I can trust you again, really can't be determined by me forgiving you but rather your next actions and if you can trust me in this relationship." Jay sighed relieved, you pulled him into a hug. He breathed in gratefully, inhaling the scent of your shampoo mixing with your perfume. "Thank you." He pulled away, kissing your cheek. He looked at you cupping your face in his hand, "really I can't thank you or your brother enough for fixing this clock. It means so much to me." You smiled, tilting your head into his hand. "You are very welcome; I knew it meant a lot to you when Will told me about it."

Jay moved away from you, he reached into the bagand pulled the grandfather clock out of the paper bag. He placed it on yourcoffee table. He leaned back and pulled you into his arms, tugging you into hisside; he kissed your temple. "Tell me about it." Jay smiled; you could feel his lips move against your temple. He kissed your temple once more before he began to tellyou his family history and the story behind the grandfather clock. That sameclock in the future would stand ticking on your mantel with the photo of Jay graduating from the Rangers replaced with your own wedding photo with Jay smiling down at you with obvious love in his sea green eyes.
