Glancing over at Mouse's sleep creased face as he gently snored, he was laying spread-eagled on your shared bed; you thought about the choice you were making and how it would change everything. Its change would occur the second he woke to an empty bed. All rational would leave after a thorough search of your shared apartment, his anxieties reaching their height as he'd blame himself for your absence. The solider in him would want to find you and protect you from the horrors you were running from even if they were not tangible. He would run through every scenario including the one that he feared the most; you leaving him for his past. Although the man in him would want to understand your decision and respect it, no matter the overwhelming pain. You knew that if you walked out the door now you would never be able to walk back through it. The reason you left would not matter, Mouse's trust would be gone, and Jay would be torn between you and Mouse.

Mouse rolled to his side, while still asleep reaching out to your side of the bed. His hand moved over the expanse of sheets you had left. His eyebrows furrowed as he couldn't find you, his eyes blinked sleepily as he continued searching for you. Once he couldn't find you, he jerked awake and searched the room through sleep hazed eyes. Before they settled on your figure huddled on the chair in the corner of the room. Mouse whispered your name carefully, you curled further into yourself, pulling your knees to your chest. Leaning over Mouse tapped the lamp onto its lowest setting and allowed the warm light to illuminate the room. He said your name again and you sniffed. Mouse sat up, the sheets pooling around his waist. He then crawled out of your shared bed and sat on the floor in front of you. "What's going on?" You shook your head. Mouse carefully changed his seated position, so he was kneeling. He raised his hands, so they hovered over yours which were gripping your knees. He didn't touch you, until one of your fingers twitched upwards and hooked around his. Mouse brought his hands down to hold yours. You lifted your face to Mouse's, tears tracking down your cheeks. Mouse lifted one of his hands and brushed his fingers across your cheeks wiping away the tears. You flinched slightly and Mouse paused. This had been a concern of his when you had entered the relationship, he had been terrified that he would accidentally hurt you. You shook your head, and barely above a whisper. "I'm not scared of you...Mouse." You hesitated on his moniker; he caught it. He always caught it, when it came to you, he would always catch it. "Y/N?" Your head dropped down and Mouse used his thumb and index finger to lift your chin. It took it another whisper of your name for you to raise your eyes to meet his. "I was gonna leave you." The whispered confession caused ice water to flood Mouse's veins before his blood ran hot with sweat breaking out on his back and his hand dropped from your face. Had he done something? Had his trauma finally caused you to leave him?

"Why?" It sounded tortured as it fell from his lips. You shook your head, dropping it back to your chest. Mouse used his thumb and index finger to raise your chin again, this time you met his eye line. "He wants to take everything from me. I couldn't let him take you away." Mouse relaxed slightly; you weren't leaving him voluntarily. This unknown entity was forcing you. "So why didn't you leave?" Mouse wanted to know, he needed to know. "I couldn't do it; I couldn't hurt you." Mouse nodded, "do you want help in taking this guy down? Putting him somewhere he couldn't hurt us?" You barely nodded your head, but Mouse was still holding your chin and he felt his skin of his wrist slide against your knee as you moved. "I need you to ask, Y/N. Then I can get Jay and the rest of intelligence to help. All you have to do is ask, otherwise we can't help officially."

"Please help me." He almost didn't hear your whispered plea. Mouse raised himself up and leaned forwards kissing your forehead. His lips lingered against your skin, and he almost missed your shuddering breaths as you tried not to cry. He pulled back, "I'm going to call Jay, okay?" He stood and made to move you reached out grasping at his wrist wanting to tug him back to you. Mouse looked down at you, your face tilted up at him. He could see the unshed tears in your eyes and the tear tracks down your cheeks. Mouse knelt back down, "I'm just getting my phone." He softened his voice to a whisper, you loosened your grip and let his wrist slip from your grasp. Mouse stood and grabbed his phone, dialling Jay's number. He moved back over to you; he remained standing but placed a steadying hand on your back just between your shoulder blades. It was a comforting weight, a reassurance that he was there. You leaned against Mouse's side, thankful that even after your admission he was still here.
