The inspiration for the case was taken from the Bones pilot episode, some details have been changed to fit with this story.

Leaning against the railings on the evidence platform, you looked over the body on the table. James Aubrey, your partner in the FBI came up the steps with Seeley Booth. Booth most often went with Brennan to talk to families, so you had been partnered with ever hungry, James Aubrey. He spotted you and moved to stand leisurely beside you. "Right, what do we know so far?" Booth asked around at the gathered squints, Hodgins was standing next to Angela who was seated at the computer. Cam stood at the foot of the autopsy table; Brennan stood at the head. This week's intern was Wendell and he stood on the side of autopsy table, watching everyone pan out. Cam waved her hand towards Brennan. Brennan stepped forward, she began to explain that the victim, a young woman. "She was between 18 and 22 years of age, Caucasian. I can see from the wear of the bones, that she was a tennis player." Booth looked over the remains on the table and the trays which lay on top. One which held the reconstructed skull which was made up of shattered shards and the second which held a couple of smaller ones. Brennan noticed that Booth was looking at the bones that lay on the two trays.

Brennan pointed to the first tray, "this is her skull, I have reconstructed it. Angela was able to do a facial reconstruction and Hodgins was able to find particulates that had been embedded into the bone." Aubrey looked up from his notes, "how would that happen?" Booth spoke as Aubrey finished his sentence asking his own question. "What were the particulates?" Brennan moved over to the tray, and while she spoke moved her gloved hands over the fragments pointing evidence out. "Due to the way the skull shattered and how deeply the particulates were embedded in the bone as well as the way that some of the edges have powered." Booth looked confused; he raised his eyebrows. "So, they hit with a...?" Brennan looked over at Booth and by extension, you and Aubrey. "Sledgehammer." You spoke up, and when you noticed the group of people looking over at you, questioned. "Right?" Hodgins grinned, "yes. The particulates show that she was smashed over the head with sledgehammer on cement floor." You nodded and added it to your notes. "Was she alive when this happened?" Brennan shook her head. "There's no evidence of that." Booth sighed, "okay anything else we need to know?" Hodgins consulted his file. "Some of the particulates show that the cement floor was covered with diatomaceous earth, the particulates were a result of blowback. She was wrapped in plastic, but as she was placed in water and there given were tears in the plastic, there wasn't any fingerprints or anything else that could be used to identify the killer. The plastic is also at any Home Dept. I also found these bones, from the plastic she was wrapped in. I think that they are rana temporaria."

Booth shook his head, "what?" Hodgins looked up at Booth. "Frog bones." Brennan's brow furrowed. "These aren't frog bones, these are foetal ear bones." Everyone sighed when they realised what it meant. "She was pregnant." Cam spoke the heavy words, Booth sighed heavily. "Anything we need to know?" You asked. "The killer took a knife and cut the pads of her fingers off, he cut so deeply that he nicked the bone. There are also nicks in between her ribs where she was stabbed several times. She also has wounds on her arms that indicate self-defence. She fought back but we couldn't find any evidence of who killed her. All this and the fact that her body was hidden prove that the killer was trying to hide who she was. Angela's running missing persons to see if anyone matches the description along with the facial reconstruction."

Angela had found out who the young woman was and while Booth and Brennan were talking to the victim's family. You and Aubrey began interviewing her co-workers. As you were heading back to the FBI building Aubrey looked over at you. You were deep in thought, Aubrey thought it was the case you were thinking about, so he reminded silent simply driving back to your offices. You were, however, really thinking about the man on your right. Your thoughts had drifted from the case to Aubrey. Thoughts lingered in your mind about the man sitting on your right, how you liked him more than a friend and how you figured he wouldn't ever like you back the same way. As you were thinking your phone rang, on the third ring you noticed it and picked it up. "Agent L/N. Right, thanks Booth. Aubrey and I go there now." You hung up and Aubrey looked at you questioningly. "Booth found a suspect, a former boyfriend of the victim's made several threatening calls, stalked her and made serval unwanted advances towards our victim. Brennan thinks that due to the timeline of their breakup he could be the father of her unborn baby." Aubrey nodded, pulling into a carpark and using it to make a U-turn. He drove to the new address, Booth had provided.

Aubrey pulled up at the suspects house, Booth hadn't arrived at this point. You pointed out that the suspect was leaving his place as you and Aubrey were walking up the sidewalk. "Mr. Geller, FBI Special Agents L/N and Aubrey, we'd..." was as far as Aubrey got before the Mr. Geller fled. You chased after him while Aubrey ran back for the car. Mr. Geller ran down the street and turned heading towards the park that was nearby. "Stop, FBI." You called out as you followed him. The SVU driven by Aubrey behind you stopped as Mr. Geller and you ran through the gates to the park. You heard Aubrey exit the car on the phone with Booth as he chased after Mr. Geller. You saw Mr. Geller duck into the tennis courts area, slowing down along the wall of the building you pulled out your sidearm. Rounding the corner, you promptly hit with a discarded baseball bat along your side. Gasping in pain, you dropped your sidearm and clutched at your side. In the corner of your vision you saw that he was about to swing again when you ducked and moved out of the way. Kicking out you connected your foot with the side of his knee. He dropped the bat and staggered. He regained his balance quickly and managed to grab hold of your arm, he twisted and threw you into the wall. Placing your arm out to catch yourself, your wrist twisted painfully when it made contact with the stone. He moved forwards to punch you, but you managed to twist around to face him and throw your punch first. Your fist connected with a sicking crack and Mr. Geller dropped to the floor as Aubrey rounded the corner. Aubrey took one look at you, you looked up and met his eye. As you did differing emotions flickered across it, far too quick for you to read into. Aubrey arrested Mr. Geller for assaulting a federal agent and conspiracy to commit murder.

Booth arrived in time with the paramedics. The medics checked out your ribs and ruled out any damage, telling you that you would have a few nasty bruises there for a little while. They then had to leave with out finishing the rest of your wounds as there was an accident which required all available medics. After promising that you were okay and that both Booth and Aubrey had first aid training and would help, you watched the medics drive away sirens screaming out. "You good?" Booth asked when you told you were fine, he continued. "Good. Aubrey will take you home, alright? Take the rest of the day." You nodded.

Arriving at your place, Aubrey helped unlock the door and drop your bag on the chair by the couch. He moved into your bathroom and grabbed the first aid kit; you had told him about. You sat on the couch. "I'm fine, Aubrey." Aubrey scoffed, "sure, sprained wrist, cuts and bruises. Totally fine." You smiled softly at him. Aubrey began to clean your cuts and rub cream on your bruises. He wrapped your wrist making sure the bandages weren't too tight. He then cleaned the cut on your forehead, before adding a bandage to it. Your eyes caught his as trailed his gaze along your face. "Y/N...I...um." He paused, "I really like you more than a friend and when I saw that you had gotten hurt today, I couldn't help thinking that it was my fault. Like I was to blame for not getting there faster and...." Aubrey began to ramble as you processed the information that he like you more than a friend. He kept rambling, so you placed your hands over his. "Aubrey. Aubrey. James!" He stopped looked at you wide eyed, stuttering to a stop. "I'm okay, I'm safe." Aubrey took a deep breath. "I really like you too." You paused. "More than a friend." He grinned at you. "Maybe when you feel better, we could go on a date?" Aubrey asked cautiously. You smiled. "I would like that." Aubrey grinned and flipped his hands over so that he could carefully hold them within his own. You both stood after a short while and a phone call from Booth asking Aubrey to come in and help finish off the case. He smiled you, "I'll see you tomorrow then, for work you know because..." You squeezed hand and he took a step away. "I'll see you tomorrow, Aubrey." He smiled at you the look in his eyes softening before leaning forward and kissing your cheek, his lips lingering on the skin there. Aubrey turned and left as the door shut, you swore you could have heard him shout in excitement.
