However, it was you had planned on telling your brother, Kelly Severide that you were dating, Jay Halstead, it was not like this. This hadn't been the way you wanted to let him know you were dating Jay. If you had had time to plan it, it would have been a relatively nice restaurant, not too expensive but in public where they couldn't pick a fight with each other. It was not here; it was not like this. It was not at the site of this accident, the one you were injured in. Nor was it supposed to be over your hospital bed.

Stepping out of the 9-1-1 call centre where you worked, you tugged your cell phone from the confines of your handbag. As you secured it in your hand, you keyed in your passcode. You found the name you were searching for while tugging your keys out of the small pocket you had hidden them in. The phone rang in your ear as you tucked it between your shoulder and ear. You unlocked your car and got in, dropping your handbag onto the seat beside you. "Halstead." You rolled your eyes, slightly as you shut your car door. "Do you ever look at your caller ID?" There was a deep chuckle that sounded in your ear. "You off work?" You hummed, "yeah, just finished the craziest shift had a few weird calls. Do you want to join me for take out tonight?" There was a contemplative hum on the other side before, "that's a question that really answers itself, isn't it?" You could practically hear his smirk through the phone, "so that's a no then?" You teased. There was a deep chuckle, "I'll see you tonight, so in an hour?" You smiled, "plenty of time to get ready then." There was another chuckle, "oh I like the sound of that." You laughed lightly, "I'll see you in an hour then." Jay gave a reply before signing off. Tossing your phone into your handbag, you pulled your seatbelt across and buckled in before starting the car and pulling out carefully.

There was a mess of cars as you were driving home, you kept getting stuck in small pockets of traffic. The radio was going quietly, and you listened to some singer cry about their broken heart. You stopped at a red light, it turned green after a short period of time. Once it turned green, you pulled out into the intersection. Out of the corner of your eye, you could see something but couldn't place it. Suddenly your entire car jerked and slammed into by another. You lost control of the car and spun out into another part of the intersection; the wheels skidded. The car that had slammed into you, had another car drive into it. This caused a chain reaction which shunted your car into a telephone pole. Your hands fell to your lap and slipped to the side as your eyes fluttered from the pain. There was blood trickling down your forehead from the cuts caused by the window that had shattered. A groan tumbled from your lips as you heard muted shouting. It was difficult to recall the information that your brother and the paramedics of Firehouse 51. Shay at first with Gabby and now Gabby and Sylvie had told you. You didn't move your head, knowing about spinal injuries. There was still muted shouting going on outside which you couldn't really hear much due to the ringing in your ears. Your eyes fluttered shut and you tired to keep your breathing even.

Jay usually didn't take this road to your place, but there was traffic and he had left earlier than planned. He saw that up ahead there was a loud noise, and there was backed up traffic. Flickering on the sirens and lights, he drove up and his stomach dropped at the scene in front of him. Three cars were involved. One had been shoved into a telephone pole, on its other side there was car which had rammed into the driver's side but hitting the back. The third car had driven into the back of the second. There were people trying to help but they were all flustered. Jay called it in, requesting fire and an ambulance, he paused before requesting a Rescue Squad. He could see the damage and how the second car had crushed the first. An older woman saw the badge around his neck and ran over to him. "There's a woman in the car that's crushed into the telephone pole, she's not moving. There's a lot of blood, and we can't get a good look at her." Jay nodded reassured the woman before using his radio, demanding to know how far away they were. He made his way over to the first car, it seemed familiar, but he couldn't quite place it. Then he saw the young woman that the other older woman had described, and his heart stopped. It was you. Your eyes were fluttering, and the wailing sirens were coming closer. He looked over and his heart thudded painfully in his chest. It was Firehouse 51 to the rescue. Your brother, Kelly was going to see his little sister, injured, bloody. Jay looked back over at you, you hadn't moved, he managed to get closer, not close enough. He could see your chest rise and fall in a steady manner; it sent a small amount of relief through him, but he knew it could be much worse.

He looked up and shouted for Rescue Squad as well as a paramedic. Kelly came over with Gabby, both looked at you their faces going white when they saw your still bloodied figure. Jay shrugged when Kelly looked at him, his own face pale, his eyes were wild with fear. "We have to get these cars apart." Gabby shook her head. "We have to stabilise her neck first." Jay helped Gabby climb the unstable car with her gear. He managed to find a spot to stand while he held her steady as she assessed you and your injures. Gabby noticed you groan in response to pain which made her give a watery smile. Jay heard your groan of pain, his heart clenched, he hated that sound. She placed the C-collar on, and he lifted her down. She took a few steps away, taking a few deep breaths. "Minor cuts and abrasions on her face from the window that shattered. No spinal that I can see. Possible concussion looks as though she's unconscious, but she's responding to pain. Her pulse is good, steady and strong." Jay nodded, most of it flew over his head but he knew that you were alive. He took a steadying breath. She looked over at Jay, jerking her chin at you then Kelly, "he know you're dating his little sister?" Jay looked over at her confused, fear flashing through his eyes, Gabby could tell that the fear was for your safety rather than of Kelly. Jay shook his head, he swallowed thickly. "We wanted to make sure that this was what we thought it was." Gabby looked at him, "is it?" Jay nodded, and Gabby grasped his shoulder squeezing in sympathy. Jay placed his hand over hers and stood waiting for Rescue Squad to pull the cars apart.

The cars had now been moved away, Gabby had administered a sedative to you beforehand so you wouldn't wake and cause damage to your spine by moving in the wrong way. Jay could do nothing but watch as the cars were pulled apart. Gabby and Sylvie raced up to you once Otis and Cruz had used the Jaws of Life to rip your door off. They got you onto the backboard. Jay helped place the backboard and you onto the gurney. The gurney was placed in the ambulance. Kelly climbed in the back after Boden had seen the devasted look on his face. Jay was paper white with fear for you as he closed the doors, he looked at Gabby who gave him a terrified look as she began to help you. He stood frozen as he watched Ambulance 61 streak towards Med. Jay looked over at the rest of the Firehouse. Boden nodded at Jay, "go." Jay ran over to where he had left his car.

Jay arrived at Med and ran in to the ED. Maggie took one look at the terrified man, she gave a calming smile. "She's fine, I'll take you to her." Jay sighed, "does everyone know?" Maggie began to lead the way, "only those of us who have eyes." She looked at Jay as she led him out the lift and to your hospital room. "It's the way you look at her that gives it away." Jay looked at her, his eyebrows raised. "You can't seem to tear your eyes from her whenever you are together." Maggie stopped a door away from your room, "first you should tell Severide, you're dating his sister. Second tell that girl you love her, because you do. She's in the next room." Jay gave Maggie a weak smile, he headed into the room. He saw Kelly sitting on a seat beside your bed. You were still asleep, there wasn't any blood on your face anymore, the cuts had small bandages on them. Kelly's face was ashen, he looked up at Jay. "The sedative that Gabby gave her is keeping her knocked out. She's got a concussion and some cuts to her face. She's also got a massive bruise across her chest from the seatbelt and bruised ribs from it tightening in the crash. They're keeping her overnight for observation." Jay nodded, rubbing the back of his neck. "Look Kelly...." Your eyes fluttered open and you groaned drawing both sets of eyes to you. Moving your head to the side, you spotted Kelly. "Hey." He grinned at you, "hey." You furrowed your eyebrows, "do you remember what happened?" You nodded, "car crash." Kelly smiled, "you really scared me there." You gave your brother a soft smile. "Take more than that to kill me." He gave watery laugh. Smiling you gazed at him once more, before rolling your head to look at the other side of the room.

When you spotted Jay; your smile grew. "Hey." He gave you a relieved smile back. You held out your hand. Jay flickered a look to your brother; however, he shook off his worry. He promptly pulled a chair up, sat down, and took your hand. His eyes flickered back to Kelly, apprehensive. You looked back at your brother and said without preamble. "I'm dating Jay." Kelly smiled softly. "Not the way we wanted to tell you, man." Jay told him. Kelly nodded, "I figured, she's not usually that dramatic." You smiled while Jay huffed a laugh. You furrowed your eyebrows, "you knew." You accused your brother, he shrugged. "Yeah, I could see the way you both looked at each other." Jay squeezed your hand and lifted to his lips as you looked over at him. He kissed your hand, his lips lingering on your skin. Kelly watched as a soft loving smile spread across your face and as a similar one spread across Jay's face as he gazed at you with the same look in his eyes.
