Sitting on my chair, I smiled warmly at the Queen with a welcoming nod

Turning to Miss Chamberlain my smiled faltered for a split second before I returned it to an obviously fake smile.

I just realized now, that they came for me

Not the other way round

I could as well show some attitude.

Looking closely at the Queen mother, one could see she was still very young as royal wolves aged very slowly

But something didn't seem right about her

Maybe it was the fact that she looked nothing like my mate

Or the fact that I was suddenly feeling irritated as a lot of feelings passed through me

Feelings that I knew weren't mine

'What's wrong Alana? Why are you feeling so angry and frustrated and most importantly, why are you letting those feelings get to me?' I asked slightly angry that had to happen when I was in front of my mate's mother whom I was currently congratulating on regards to the engagement. Only the goddess knows I don't mean a single word I spurt out

'S-something's wrong Xandra, I-I . . . I can't smell her Xandra, she's not a wolf' Alana said stuttering for the first time making me panicked and confused while I discussed engagement plans with the Queen fully ignoring Amber as I tried to not make them suspect I was not paying full attention.

'Who?' I asked confused

'The Queen mother Xandra, she's not a werewolf. She might smell like one but it's not natural. . .  It's like the scent was given to her'

'What are you talking about Alana? She's the Queen mother for goddess's sake! Her scent should be different. She's royalty.' I exclaimed in my mind trying to act focused.

I suppressed my witch side fully as I didn't want to take risks

Even though all supernaturals became human once they entered my buildings, I still had to take precautions as sensing a witch was like a sixth sense for a normal werewolf talk more of a royal

So. . . I was alone with Alana feeling slightly incomplete

' Xandra, you don't understand what am trying to tell yo-' Alana tried explaining before I cut off, again

For the first time

' You know what? I think it's the nerves from meeting your mate's mother that's making you spurt intangible things'

'N-no that's not it, Xandra lis-' I cut her off completely as I noticed the Queen staring at me strangely as though she knew I was absent minded

Sending a smile her way, I was tempted to breath out in relief as she seemed to brush it off

Continuing with the meeting, I couldn't shake off two things

First; the piercing glare miss Chamberlain frequently threw my way

Second: the guilt of blocking Alana out.

"It's going to be a real adventure working with you miss Woods "
The Queen spoke casually with a small smile on her face but even the smile couldn't shake off the feeling that her words had a double meaning to it.

Throwing her my own genuine smile

"Yes your majesty, it's going to be a pleasure"
I replied curtly make the Queen smile in approval
