PART 1
"Me neither Fred, me neither." I confessed, "But it'll be okay, Velma has a solid plan and if we follow it then we'll be OK." I assured him as he looked down at me and nodded, "You're right, the plan is full proof." Fred said walking over to sit on my bed.
"Have you started on the letter?"
I looked away, "No, I couldn't bring myself to write it." I mumbled.
"What do mean?"
"I mean I don't know if I can do it, how does someone write a suicide note in someone else's perspective then still address it too that person's parents in the process." I said avoiding Freds gaze, "I feel terrible for her parents, losing two daughters in one day." My voice began to break, "I don't understand why we can't just send the police the recording Velma took and leave it at that."
"Well yeah that has her confession but it doesn't prove that she killed herself." Fred answered as I looked over at him, "That's because she didn't kill herself."
I immediately regretted what I had just said the moment I saw Fred drop his head in what looked like shame, my emotions had been running on overdrive and all I could think of was how wrong everything could go.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it…"
"It's okay…I get that it's hard on you, " His voice became sweet and sincere, "And I know that's it's unfair of me to ask you guys to not tell anyone about what really happened…"
"It's okay Fred, we're in this together remember." I said going back to my initial seat.
There was a moment of silence between the two of us before my mother came in and asked Fred if he'd like anything to eat or drink, he respectfully declined and all we did was go back to the same state of silence we were in just moments ago.
"Look Daph, if you don't want to write the note you don't have to, I wouldn't want to put you in a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable."
"I appreciate that Fred, but there's really nothing else we can do." I stated as I pulled the letter out from inside my drawer, "This is what I have so far." I handed it to Fred as he began reading it.
"It's only a matter of time till the police find her body and we can't be wrapped up in this whole mess…plus would the police even believe us if we did tell the truth…we didn't report it right away…" I stopped as I looked over at Fred, "What?"
"What if we said that we saw her kill herself, that she jumped and before we could stop her she was gone, then we call the police and Velma could show them the recording." I suggested as Fred got up and began pacing from one side of the room to the other, "That idea doesn't sound half bad." He admitted as I picked up my phone and dialed Velma to tell her about the idea that I had just had.
I was surprised to know that she agreed to my proposal, but that we had to get to the lake as soon as possible before the police had found her. It wasn't long before Fred and I snuck out of the back door so that my mother wouldn't catch us and just like that without a spec of hesitation we were off and on our way to pick up Shaggy and Velma.
Everything had happened so fast I barely had time to think about anything, all I wanted to do was get this nightmare over with. My heart had been beating on overdrive since the minute we left the house.
In all of the craziness that had occurred I didn't even notice that Fred had been driving in Shaggy's grandparents car, the same car he had dropped me off with a few hours ago.
"Why do you still have Shaggy's grandparents' car?" I questioned as he looked over at me and shrugged, "Uhm well, I guess I should have told you sooner but I've been living with Shaggy ever since I moved into town."
