Vivian made her way down the hallway at her new school, Devenford Prep. It was her first day, and she found herself quite lost, despite the many students around her. She sighed, clutching her book closer to her chest.

She maneuvered through the crowded hallway, searching for a sign that would point her in the right direction. Suddenly, she felt a hand on her shoulder, making her whip her head around quickly. A tall, muscular boy stood in front of her, his eyebrows knitted together.

"Are you new?" he asked. Vivian nodded slowly. The boy flashed a smile, running a hand through his blonde hair. "I'm Brett. Do you need help finding your next class?"

Vivian smiled up at his kindness. "Um, that would be great. I'm Vivian, by the way," she answered. Brett nodded as they started to walk down the hallway once again. He looked down at the girl as they walked, starting to admire her features. She had gorgeous black hair, mysterious brown eyes, and lips that looked pink and soft.

"What book is that?" Brett asked, motioning to the book that Vivian had clutched in her arms. She smiled, handing the book to him. "Pride and Prejudice," he read. Vivian nodded as he handed the book back to her. Their fingers brushed, making the girl blush a soft pink.

"This is your class. AP English," Brett stated as they came to a stop in front of a classroom. Vivian smiled up at him again.

"Thank you," she said. Brett nodded, winking as he slipped away.

As Vivian sat in the back of the classroom, she flipped her book open, only to find something scribbled on the inside of the cover. She has almost flipped past it due to the many annotations that Vivian herself had written as she read it.

Her heart fluttered as she read over the words, or rather the number that was scrawled across the top.

415-926-8774

It was unmistakably Brett's handwriting. Of course, Vivian would never have known this if the fact that she never let anyone touch her books didn't stand. The only person that had touched her copy of Pride and Prejudice besides her was Brett. She sighed as the teacher entered the classroom.

But throughout the class, only one thing remained on her mind. Brett Talbot.
