the princess laughed and turned to face him, "so, technoblade, what brings you to the over world?"

Technoblade sighed before joining the princess on the bench, sitting adjacent to where he was a few moments before.

"i think we both know why i'm here."

"then why don't we clarify what's going on," alexandria said, giving him a daring look. she really didn't know what was happening in the world around her, other than the war that was rumored to happen. and her coronation, of course.

technoblade laughed, "well you see, your father is in a bit of turmoil at the moment. his knights are exploring uncharted territory in the end cities; looting, stealing, and grieving. so, end colonies have joined together and are now threatenin' your father with war,"

alex watched as his hands gently caressed the air as he spoke. she wondered if this is how the War Lord always spoke about things he was passionate about.

"but that doesn't really explain why i'm here," he turned to face her. "you will be the queen in seven days, meanin' you and i will be business partners. so, your father arranged some royal meetings to just simply talk about whatever there is to be talked about."

he paused, "however i think it's going to be a lot longer than seven days with the inevitable war."

alexandria sighed, picturing the coronation in her head, "the longer the wait, the better-"

she was cut off by the sound of metal hitting the pavement.

"there she is, my little princess!" the man in flashing armor spoke. alex rolled her eyes as her royal guard finally caught up with her.

"go away nick, don't you see i'm busy?" she spoke. his name left a bitter taste on her tongue.

"well, you threw your little fit earlier and i've been looking for you ever since," the guards stance faltered when he saw lord technoblade. alex noticed, and couldn't help but smirk.

"anything to get away from you," she spat after standing up. technoblade stood behind her with his hand resting on his axe's hilt.

nick placed his hands on her shoulders and snickered, "well, don't get used to it sweetheart, in seven days i will never leave your side. sometimes late at night, i think of all the things we'll do together,"

in one swift motion, alex kicked the guards legs out from underneath him and unsheathed his sword. he fell to the floor with a thud, and alex pressed his own blade against his throat.

"if you talk to me like that ever again, i will not hesitate to finish this job," alexandria said with a cold look on her face.

technoblade stood a few feet away from the princess with his mouth agape. he was glad his mask hid his features.

alexandria dropped the sword beside her, and let the clang of metal ring out. she spun on her heel with a smile on her face, "so, see you tomorrow, lord?"

technoblade nodded sternly as she walked back into the castle. he then watched the fool infront of him scramble to his feet, and speed off in the other direction. the war lord walked back over and sat down on the bench. he looked at the sword that lay still on the ground, and then about who was just wielding it. the lord sighed, now with more questions than answers.

the sound of her shoes echoed through the castle walls as alex walked. she approached her bedroom door and fished a key out of her back pocket. while she was unlocking the door, she saw her cat stroll down the corridor.

"there you are chip, i've been looking for you," alex said as she bent down to pet her cats chin. he meowed in response.

when she opened her door, she was greeted by the sketches that lined the walls. after making sure chip was in the room, she shut the door and set her field journal on her desk. alex sat down and reviewed the days notes on the monarch butterfly, but it didn't take long before she thought about her fathers words.

quit wasting your time trying to be a scholar!

the words rang out in alexandria's ears, and she felt tears roll down her cheeks. it wasn't often she cried, but lately she couldn't keep up with her tough facade.

alex looked over at a picture frame on her desk, and then reached out to hold it.

"i'm trying mom," she muttered, "i just don't know how you did it all."

alexandria wiped the tears off of the glass before setting the frame back on her desk. she took a deep breath and walked over to her bed. alex needed a nap.

*~*

"alexandria! may i come in?" the voice sounded beyond the door.

"you have a key," she muttered into her pillow. the door opened to reveal one of her closest friends.

"cmon... it's time to eat!" elyse tugged on alex's arm until she fell out of the bed.

"ow," alex laughed. she sat up off her floor and gave chip an apologetic pet.

"let's go!" elyse chirped, leading alex out of her room.

"what time is it anyway?" alexandria yawned

"hmmm, i'd say about 6:45ish. y'know, you really shouldn't keep doing-"

"shhhh shh shh shh shhh," alex cut her off, "no need to give me a lecture, everything is working according to plan."

"if you say so," elyse said. "anyways, you need to catch me up on lord technoblade. my sources tell me you two had a lovely talk in the garden."

alexandria explained to her life-long best friend about the day she had; but mostly about the situation in the garden.

"i think i really don't like nick anymore," elyse chuckled as she opened the door to the dining hall. usually, only people of royalty ate in there, but over the years, elyse became an exception.

the two girls were the only two in the room at the moment, and they sat at the very far end of the table. as they waited for the others to show up, they talked about the upcoming events.

"i'm kinda nervous about the war," elyse whispered as a few more people gathered in the dining hall.

"i don't think there's much to worry about," alex lied. technoblade informed her of the severity of these war threats.

"you think so? my mom has been worried sick about it, and i guess her worry has rubbed off on me," elyse sighed

"you two will be alright, i promise."

"easy for you to say, you have a personal knight and you sneak away-" elyse was cut off by the kings arrival.

alex greeted her father as he sat across from elyse, but she what she didn't expect was for technoblade to sit across from her.

"dig in!" the king shouted to the royal members of the castle before the room erupted in satisfied shouts.

alex started to cut a piece of her steak when elyse started bumping her foot. alexandria looked over at her and whispered, "what?"

elyse gestured to the man that sat across from alex, "he's so intimidating," she whispered softly.

alexandria laughed and continued eating her steak. her father began to ask elyse about her mother when alex's foot was yet again disturbed. she looked up only to be met with technoblades mask looking straight at her. maybe he was looking at her small case of bed head, or the pimple forming on her chin, or maybe he was letting her know nick sat down next to her.

"hello, miss," he greeted

alex rolled her eyes, "hello." she turned her attention back to her steak and picked at it, now in a sour mood.

as the night carried on, alexandria escorted herself back to her room. she excitedly crawled under the covers and waited as sleep fell upon her.

it wasn't until the castle was swallowed by a cloud of darkness, that technoblade heard feet tip toe through the halls; like they did every night.
