Once I've carved a path for the villagers and supplied them with water, I head off towards the nearest of the three closest villages. From what I've seen and learnt, in the Parshuran Kingdom, villages cannot be established further than a days travel from the closest pre-existing village. This is to assure the safety of travellers.
The risk of being waylaid by either bandits or the more common monsters increase at night, so it's infinitely safer to spend the night in a walled off village than either in a tent in the wilderness or travelling through the dark.
This first village is outside of my Domain, but it's surely going to be swallowed up if I keep getting stronger. Already the border is closer to it than to Sern'in village. As I approach it, I note the smoke rising from multiple houses.
Not every village will have a Guild Hall, only large villages with more than three hundred permanent residents is eligible for it, and Sern'in didn't really qualify with its barely two hundred villagers, but due to its location within my Domain, an exception was made.
In these Guild Hall-less villages, the mass shelter is often situated in the church, though it seems they've elected to not gather in it... The snow is also not deep within the village itself, as if it's been cleared away or worn down by traffic.
I cautiously hover as I make a lap of the village, having World Knowledge scan the situation within.
*It seems the villagers here all were able to weather the cold and snow without too much difficulty. Detecting the presence of a powerful Magic Tool capable of lessening the effect of the High Cold Event.*
Oho?
*Scanning historical records... Result: The village of Cai'in is the home of an artefact known as the Heat Shimmer Scarf. Originally housed in an ancient Temple dedicated to the now deceased Demigod of Heat located in Yo'ud, the Heat Shimmer Scarf travelled along with the original protectors of the Temple when they fled persecution for their faith.*
W-Why would you be hunted for praying to the Demigod of Heat?
"Well, Yo'ud is a desert... Perhaps the ones doing the persecuting were convinced the believers made the heat of the desert worse?"
That's... That's a good point. Well, it seems the people here are doing all right...
I flap my wings and take off towards the next village. Although there are countless villages dotting the route between here and the capital, there's no time to check on all of them. There's also the fact that the heightened Magic within my Domain inadvertently boosted the effect of the High Cold Event beyond its normal limits. Those villages closest to my Domain would be more affected by this.
I feel bad for this, so this is my own way of trying to pay for the damages. If there's anything I can help the two other villages with, then I'll do my best to do so.
Stopping in front of the second village, I scan the inside.
*Detecting a large gathering of humanoids within the Church. Most are in good condition, though some are starting to show signs of starvation.*
Ugh. This village is about the same size as Sern'in, so approximately two hundred people. Seems the Church is iced up as well.
I start working on freeing up the doors to the church. The quiet mutterings emanating from inside stop once I start. Awareness spikes up and alerts me to the presence of someone hostile in the bell-tower, they're aiming a high power arbalest my way.
"I'd not bother with that, friend." I stop gathering Heat in my hands, afraid I'll lose control of the Magic if attacked. I sense the panic of whoever it is in the tower. A panic mixed with loathing?
