~Same as before, here's some lore in case it never comes up in the story. I'll also go a bit more in depth on the Statistics System. It's also written from an in World perspective, same as the last.~

Overview

Monsters come in innumerable forms, though through the wisdom of the Hero of Life, a semblance of a classification system was established. Although many of the classes or 'types' of monsters seem to be based on their resemblance to the flora and fauna of the Heroes' original World, it makes enough sense for current time researchers to use it when classifying newly discovered Monsters.

Regardless of the type, all Monsters share a few key points in regards to their biology:

- All Monsters lay eggs, even Mammaloid Monsters, who seem to be the closest to humanoids in terms of reproduction and method of rearing young.

- All Monsters are capable of Singular Entity Adaptation, or Evolution. Some Monsters reach a point where they are unwilling or incapable of Evolving further, so there seems to be some limits to this phenomena. Evolution is poorly understood, as researching it requires vast resources, subjects, and time.

- All Monsters, and indeed, all Humanoids, adhere to the Statistics System. This volume will give an in depth description of this System.

Though there are other shared characteristics, these are the most obvious ones.

Birth and Death

Monsters are, as previously stated, all born from eggs that are conceived in a similar way to how humanoids conceive their young. Usually the mates are chosen based on appearance and strength, but some sapient kinds of monsters might choose their mate based on behavior and personality.

Monsters are able to successfully mate with their own species, as well as species one step below or above in the Evolution process, though in those cases the viability of their eggs is lowered. To put it into practical terms: A Hobgoblin might mate with a Hobgoblin, and bear several eggs. The same Hobgoblin could also mate with a Goblin (one step below), or a Lesser Ogre (one step above), and bear one or two eggs.

Specializations do not matter when it comes to distinguishing species, so a Hobgoblin Shaman would still be able to mate with an un-Specialized Goblin, for example.

Some Types of monster are able to come into existence via Spontaneous Generation, namely the Elemental and Sprite Types, though some other species also exhibit this ability. Once the conditions are right, monsters will start 'spawning' in the area. This phenomenon is poorly understood, but is more easily observed in Dungeons.

Unlike humanoids, monsters do not die from old age. Although their bodies continue to grow and Evolve through the Singular Entity Adaptation, only by reducing their HP to zero can a monster die. Elementals could be notes as an exception, as they seem to be determined to live as short a life as possible.

Statistics System

The Statistics System is the metric by which combat, magic and indeed, most physical or mental activities are determined. All living things adhere to this System, and through it, one can learn a great many things about the World itself.

The System can be split into four categories: Descriptive, Active, Core, Skills/Spells/Titles. When observing an entity by using the appropriate equipment, one will find that the information about the individual is presented in that order. A brief overview before we tackle the in-depth description of each part of the Statistics System.

- Descriptive -
The name (Unnamed in the case of most Monsters), Species (type - rarity), gender and any active Statuses form the smallest component of the Statistics, or Stats for short. It's the kind of information anyone would be able to access, save for name and Statuses. Further information about Statuses can be found in volume III, Arcanum.
