Ｃｈａｐｔｅｒ ５

【Year 850】
After three years of training, we have finally reached to our graduation. In those two years, we discovered a lot of things with each other, making more friends and comrades, and many memories are made.

And here I am, standing in front of the crowd as I was called that I was second in my class━Mikasa being the first. To be honest, I wasn't jealous at all. For all I know, I did my best in this training, instead of failing and just work in the fields.

"Do you have heart?" The head instructor chief asked

"Yes, sir!" We all saluted

"As of this moment, you have three options open for you. Choose wisely," He instructed, "The Garrison Regiment, whose job is to reinforce the walls. The Survey Corps, who rides out in titan territory to take back what was ours. And the Military Police, maintaining law and order from his Royal Majesty,"

Well, apparently, those who are in the Top 10 are eligible to the MPs, but, no way in hell I'm wasting the training and my talents to those lazy ass scumbags. After the graduation ceremony, we all went to the mess hall to celebrate. People chattering how they are excited to join their chosen regiment━well, most of it is about the Military Police since they want a peaceful life, away from danger. I rolled my eyes as I joined Connie and Sasha in their conversation.

"MPs here I come!" Connie cheered, raising his cup

"3 square meals a day for life!" Sasha added, already drooling from the thought

I sighed, "Seriously, what's so exciting in joining the MPs?" I coldly asked

The two crackheads gasped in horror, "W-wait, you're not joining the MPs?!" They shouted

I shook my head, "No way. I have talent and these 3 years of training will just ended me sitting my ass and no justice are obtained. I'm joining the Scouts," I declared, drinking in

They looked at me like I was insane, "Also, I want to avenge someone.." I frowned, remembering my parents' death

Their expressions saddened, but Sasha changed the subject into foods now, until I heard some commotion on the sides. I heard Thomas asking Eren if he is really gonna turn in back on the Military Police and join the Scouts. I smirked, an obvious answer from him.

"Are you insane?!" Thomas' outburst caught the attention of everyone inside the mess hall

He felt embarrassed at first but continued, "How many people had died? We're talking about half of the population. If that doesn't paint a picture for you, I don't what will," He said, "This is our life now, we can't beat them.."

The atmosphere from earlier suddenly drained down, everyone in the mess hall went quiet━knowing that even they trained the hardest, gets on top of the class and join a regiment, you'll soon die from the titans.

I scoffed as I walked over Thomas and smacked his head. He yelped as they turned to me from my sudden appearance, "C'mon, what's with the sudden droppy selves?" I raised my eyebrows

"Whatever you guys say, he and I are still going to join the Survey Corps. We can still beat them, if you are strong enough and have faith to yourself, you know you can beat them," I said, "Even if we are talking about half of the population, all of us here can still beat them," I added before smirking, "I guess, most of you are cowards to even face them.." I sneered

They gasped, "I mean, I don't care. If I die, I die with value and the service I gave to humanity. If I live, I'll keep fighting for what was ours!" I declared

"She's right.." Eren started as everyone looked at him, "So what? We've buckled, taking all lying down? Things have changed, maybe not a hell of a lot, but enough. They aren't the mystery they were five years ago. There's still a long way to go, but we've made progress. Every battle we lost thought us a lesson, gave us the tiniest inroad towards something like hope. You're telling me it's better to cut our losses? Let all the death and destruction to be meaningless? Just to ball it up and accept it?! Not on your life!" Tears started to form in his eyes
