ACT FOUR, grief
CHAPTER FIVE, amortentiaAll throughout breakfast the next morning Iris found herself thinking about the book and the magic that she held in her hands. Even though the spell she had performed had been a small one, she felt a bit different after performing it. Like she could feel the magic coursing through her hands and she thought about the endless possibilities of what she could do and perform.
When she faced Bellatrix and Cordelia, she'd be ready this time. She'd be ready to win.
"What're you thinking about?" Oliver asked. He noticed Iris was more distracted than usual, and judging from the dark circles underneath her eyes, she still wasn't sleepnig much.
"Nothing." Iris said lightly.
After they had eaten, they remained in their places, awaiting Professor Snape's descent from the staff table. The distribution of class schedules was more complicated than usual this year, for Professor Snape needed first to confirm that everybody had achieved the necessary O.W.L. grades to continue with their chosen N.E.W.T.s.
He brushed by Iris without a word. She knew she had made it into all of her chosen N.E.W.T. classes after the stellar grades she had gotten. She looked over her schedule and took a look at her classes.
"Free period now . . . free period after lunch . . . free period after break . . . they're spoiling us!" Sabina praised looking at her schedule.
"That many free periods can only mean that they're going to pile the workload on this." Tracey groaned.
"Hey, Black!" A voice from down the table called out. Iris turned her head and looked over at the boy that had called her name. Uruqhart was sitting beside several other Slytherins that Iris knew were on the Quidditch team. He'd never played before, she didn't think. He waved her over.
"I better go see what this is about." Iris said. She walked over to them and sat down beside Vaisey, a chaser, and ignored the look Draco was giving her. "Yes?"
"We heard you're playing on the team this year." Urquhart said. "Ever since Flint left we haven't had a decent one but with you on the team, we might have a chance this year."
Iris froze.
"What?" She asked. She looked around at all of them confused. "Are you asking me to be Captain?"
"It's either you or Urquhart." Draco said. There was an annoyed edge in his tone that Iris ignored because she was too busy trying not to laugh at the irony. She wanted to find Marcus Flint and laugh right in his face. He'd had it out for her the entire time she was on the team and now they wanted her to be Captain. Ha! "Urquhart hasn't exactly played on the team before so . . ."
"I'll do it." Iris said nodding her head. She couldn't wait to get started. She already had so many plans on what she wanted to do and how she wanted the team to be.
"Good," Urquhart said. "Twenty new hopefuls have put their names in. You'll have to set up trials."
"Excellent," Iris said standing up. "I'll see you all there."
There were groans and protests from the team that they would have to try out but Iris ignored them completely.
She rushed out of the Great Hall and found Harry walking in the direction of the Gryffindor common room. Tracey and Willa had run off to Care of Magical Creatures but Sabina struggled to keep up with Iris because of her long strides.
"Harry . . . Harry!" Iris called out. She was buzzing with more excitement than she had felt in a long time. Harry turned around and looked at Iris, a small smile forming on his face at the expression on her face. She didn't stop until she got directly in front of him, ignoring the curious stares of the students that passed by them. "Guess who was just named captain of the Slytherin quidditch team."
