ACT FIVE, love
CHAPTER THREE, caliope hel's necklace

Rhea pushed Iris forward so harshly that she flew directly into the Gorgon and the both of them went falling onto the floor. Iris kept her eyes closed tight and she rolled off the Gorgon. She had no idea how she was going to defeat something that she couldn't see but she would certainly try like hell. She felt claws swiping near her head and dodged out of the way, picking herself up off the ground in the process. She didn't know where her wand was but she used her foot to search around for it.

"Oh, Iris," Rhea said in a mocking voice. "Poor, little, Iris Black. Defeated by a gorgon with no one she loves at her side."

"Stop talking." snapped Iris. She used her hands to throw spells of in every direction around her. The snakes hissed and she threw a fireball in the direction the noise came from. Judging from the angry noise the Gorgon made, Iris must've hit her target.

"Iris." This next voice that came wasn't Rhea's, but it was one that made her halt. Harry. It was Harry's voice. "You have to help me, Iris."

"Harry . . ."

"Please help me, Iris." Harry begged her. "She's going to turn me into stone. Please help me, Iris."

"You're not real." Iris said through gritted teeth. Her eyes stayed close, though it took everything she had in her to not open her eyes and search for Harry. She listened closely for the Gorgon but her snakes had gone quiet for the moment. Iris continued to throw spells off in every direction. It was draining but there was nothing else for her to do in that moment.

"HELP ME, IRIS! HELP ME!" Another voice came. It was Oliver's this time. Iris squeezed her eyes shut even tighter and, through Oliver's yelling, she could hear footsteps rapidly approaching her to the right.

Iris maneuvered out of the way and she heard the Gorgon let out an ugly roar and Iris launched a spell much darker than a fireball at her this time. The Gorgon let out a strangled noise and Iris could only imagine what she looked like after she used "Sectumsempra" on her. But, that seemed to make the Gorgon angrier and she swiped her claws at Iris.

Iris tried to dodge them all but the Gorgon caught her arms, her chest, and the side of her throat before she fell down to the ground.

"Open your eyes, Iris." Sirius said. Iris gritted her teeth together and rage flashed within her. Rhea could use Harry and Oliver against her all she wanted, but her parents were strictly off limits.

Iris didn't know what overcame her but she could feel a surge of power within her. It was like she had been possessed, but she knew it was all her. She brought her hand up and wrapped it around the Gorgon's throat, using magic to hold the creature in place so that she couldn't move. Her snakes hissed at Iris violently but Iris created a ball of fire in her hand that wasn't being used to restrain the Gorgon and burned the snakes. The Gorgon screamed as her snakes burned and she could do nothing about it and Iris felt her disappear from her hands.

Iris stood up from the ground, bloody and looking worse for wear. She opened her eyes and looked at Rhea.

"You've passed the first test." said Rhea.

"The first test?" asked Iris, becoming increasingly annoyed by the second.

"Physical combat with an opponent is an easy task. You just have to know the right spells in order to win, and you proved that you do. But, it's the emotional and psychological torture that you can't prepare yourself for." said Rhea. Her voice echoed all around Iris and the scenery around them drifted away.
