Chapter 16

Ellis POV:

I knew that "hung out" once, the night that Mer had found out about Alex and April. But I never expected to find Dr. Derek Shepherd on my couch after spending the night.

On the contrary, they were both fully clothed so they didn't really "hang out" on my couch which I really appreciate. But still I was still stunned and pissed.

Derek said while gathering his things "I should go... I'm going... umm it was nice to see you Dr. Grey"

I look at him and say "Wish I could say the same Dr. Shepherd." He looks like he's about to crap his pants. And he just bolts to the door and gets in his car and leaves.

I look at my still shocked daughter and say "What was he doing here?"

Meredith says "Umm well he came over to make sure I was ok because I had missed a day of work and I never miss. So I told him about everything and we were watching a movie while eating pizza and ice cream. And we fell asleep on the couch by accident."

I then say "Ok well you better hurry up and get ready for work because I don't want Dr. Shepherd coming to my house again cause he was worried that you missed another day."

She runs upstairs and gets ready, I felt as if she ran a little faster than usual cause she wanted an out of this conversation.

Meredith's POV

My mom just caught me and Derek on the couch and I am still half asleep and  I don't know how Im going to go to work with Derek and my mother.

I feel that I have chosen my new specialty, I was thinking general but I don't know how my mother is going to feel about that. And to be honest I don't really care.

I'm working on some new research for an abdominal transplant for some veterans who have had some issues in their abdomens. I have most of it together but I need a patient who is willing to take the risk and is eligible.

I also may have agreed last night to a date with Derek, well a rescheduled one cause I may have not attended the last one.

I'm nervous to tell my mom that I'm switching, but I needed to muster up the courage to tell her and I'm going to show her my research to show her that I'm very serious about this switch.

I grab all my folders that hold my research and walk up to my mother's office, but then I see Derek down the hall and he is indicating that he wants to talk to me in the supply closet so I follow him in there.

He says "So this morning that wasn't supposed to happen. I'm sooooo sorry."

I tell him "Hey it's fine she was gonna find out that I was hanging out with someone cause if you would have left, I wouldn't have moved to my bed. I would have stayed on the couch."

He says "Ok, well I was thinking that we could go out and eat at a restaurant and then go out for ice cream if you're still hungry."

I said "Yeah, yeah sure I just have to go talk to my mom about something work related."

He says "Oh ok, well I'll pick you up around 7:00?"

Before I had left I said "sure I'll be in the lobby."

I walked away and knocked at my mother's office door and once she said "come in" I walked in.

She said "Meredith what do you want, I'm trying to work."

I look up confidently and say "I need to discuss something with you."

She looks up from her paperwork and takes off her reading glasses and say "What is it now?"
