She rolled over, only to find her phone spammed with messages. It must had been on silent which was why it didn't ring out, despite the fact that she had no memory of putting it on 'do not disturb', she figured somehow she must have done that the night before.

Yesterday was pretty hectic so if she couldn't remember doing anything, then that wasn't her fault, but that of a punk that manipulated her into agreeing to things against her own will, Cory.

The messages were from him, and they were all either asking if she was still asleep or of her present location. She stood drowsily and made her way to the bathroom, after that, she thought of a way to sneak out without her mom finding out. She creeped down the stairs and hid behind the door, then her sister walked up to her, with a confused expression.

"Whatever you're doing, you're doing it wrong." Chloe walked past her with a mug of coffee in her hands.

Joanne groaned. "I'm trying to sneak out without mom finding out." She huffed. "But I guess I can kiss that goodbye now."

Chloe furrowed her brows. "What are you talking about? Mom left like two hours ago."

Joanne lit up with contentment, she had expected something like that, except now she wasn't sure whether to be happy that her mom wasn't home which was what she wanted, or annoyed that her mom grounded her then left the house. "Oh, my bad."

Chloe grabbed her arm. "Wait, what do you mean by sneak out without mom finding out?"

That was right, Chloe didn't know she was grounded, telling her now would be a risk and she could probably get snitched on.

"You know how you said to go easy on her, well I figured 'out of sight, out of mind' would actually work for that, staying out of her line of sight would cause her to see less of me, so I thought it would be best if she didn't see me as much as she normally would, and that's what she needs right now, space." Joanne smiled, hoping her illogical explanation would do it for her, and it did.

"Oh." Chloe gushed. "You would actually do something like that for mom, no way!" She squeezed Joanne in a tight bear hug. "Sure, but be home before night, or I'm filling a missing person's report." She sipped from the mug.

Joanne rushed towards the door, not before grabbing her phone though. Sometimes, she wondered who the older one was between her and Chloe. She stopped a car and got in, it drove straight to the address Cory had forwarded to her earlier.

Getting to her destination, she was astonished by the sight before her, a huge mansion with men and women clothed in corporate dresses littered the compound, cars of different brands and sizes hung on the front porch. The most fascinating of them all were the banners and ribbons decorating the house, it seemed like a business event.

"Joanne?" Cory called, fighting his way through a crowd. "Where have you been?"

She managed to stop her jaw from dropping, seeing as he was also in a tuxedo. "What are you wearing?"

"I thought I told you about a dress code." They said at the same time.

"Yeah but I don't wear anything I'm not comfortable in." She gestured in the direction of a woman wearing a black dress. "And that is what I mean by not comfortable in."

He sighed. "You could at least have worn something more corporate."

"And you should stick to wearing shirts and skinny jeans, because they don't make you look weird."

He rolled his eyes.

"So what's up? I thought I was supposed to drive you, why are you at this freak show."
