Cory stepped on the front porch, Joanne beside him and pressed the doorbell.
"Huh? What are you doing here?" Chloe rubbed her eyes lazily, briefly glancing from time to time at the uninvited guest.
"And I thought you were supposed to be the pretty sister, seems like someone’s lack of fashion sense is starting to rub off you."
Chloe jerked back when she realized who it was, she would recognize that sarcasm anywhere. "Just a minute." She dashed to the bathroom.
Cory chuckled. "Wasn’t that also your reaction when I said that the last time I was here? Blood really is thicker than water."
Joanne only nodded. "Get in, I want to shut the door."
Cory dropped on the couch. He glanced at Joanne, "how was it?"
"Was what?’
"Meeting my friends. Were they cool?"
Joanne seemed to think about it for a while, then she joined Cory on the couch. "Yeah they were pretty cool, except for Amanda that is. I may not show it but that girl scares the crap out of me."
Cory chuckled. "That goes without saying, don’t worry you’ll get used to it, just like I did."
"I hope so."
"What is up guys?" Chloe walked clumsily into the living room, putting on ripped jean pants, and a cropped t-shirt with some red heels. "How do I look?"
Joanne squinted her eyes, the Chloe she knew would never ask anyone how she looked – it was as simple at that, she never cared. "You do know she’s acting this way just to impress you, right?" Joanne asked Cory in a whisper.
"Thanks for the heads-up. "Cory beamed in Chloe’s direction. "You look stunning."
Smacking Cory hard just beneath his chest, she said. "You’re not supposed to fuel the stupid crush she has on you!"
"I wasn't, she looks amazing." Cory had his mischievous smile on, Joanne knew he was only doing this to frustrate her, on normal circumstances she wouldn’t mind – but for some reason now, it bugged her.
"You’re unbelievable," then to her sister. "Get into your normal clothes, now."
Chloe stuck her tongue out in response. "Can’t make me."
"I'm calling mom."
"And tell her what? You let a friend in while you were grounded – or the fact that it’s a boy."
Cory could only observe the heated exchange between them, he couldn’t as much say a word for the fear of being yelled at.
Damn this brat.
"Fine, have it your way. Keep dressing like a college student for your college crush, it won’t be my problem when you get heartbroken and find out that he sleeps around." The words were out before she could stop them. "I didn’t mean that-"
"No its okay, it’s not like you were lying or anything." Cory’s tone was that of disappointment and sadness. "You should stop crushing on me, not because of that, but because I have a girlfriend."
Chloe managed to bite back her loads of question and ask just one. "Who?"
"Your sister." He winked at Joanne.
The both choked on air, responding in the same manner. "What?"
"Yeah," Cory looked at Joanne suspiciously. "How long did you want to hide it away from her for?" He waved his hand in the hair, as if telling them to dismiss his question, he then stood to wrap his arm around Joanne’s waist who was now standing because of her argument with Chloe. "Snow white’s my girlfriend."
