The class got progressively empty with time. Joanne took to her feet immediately she saw Patricia head for the door. She managed to tackle her and drag her aside, away from others.
"Whoa. What's up with you?" Patricia said. She slouched against the wall.
Joanne said with a shaky voice, "I'm sorry I just didn't know where else to go."
Patricia leaned in. Only then did she notice the lines of tears streaming down Joanne's face. She panicked. It was not like Joanne to look so vulnerable. "Hey, it's okay. I'm here. Let's go back to the dorms and you can tell me what's bothering you there. People eavesdrop a lot in here."
Joanne slowly nodded. Patricia walked by her till they got to the dorm. She ensured the door was locked before focusing her attention on the mess which was Joanne. "Now tell me what happened."
Joanne pulled it together and started with her story. Of course she left the parts out where her diary was stolen and her relationship with Cory was fake. Other than that, she just about told Patricia the whole truth point blank.
"Wow," Patricia mused. "I don't even know what to say. Just wow."
"I know." Joanne chuckled. "It's a lot."
"I mean I don't even know why you thought it would be a good idea to tell me. It's not like my love life is any better."
At least you actually liked each other and it wasn't fake, Joanne wanted to say. "It's whatever right? I should have known better than to involve myself in any Cory Williams flings."
Patricia looked at her with a sad look, the same look Jim had whenever he talked about Cory. "Yeah. But from what you just told me which is a lot by the way, it sounds like you both still like each other."
"Huh?" Joanne stared at Patricia with widened eyes. Guess someone hadn't been listening to her.
"Isn't that why he keeps getting jealous and you too?"
Joanne shook her head. "You misunderstand-"
"And also why he's doing anything to keep you two together? Driving for him? Doing things together? It sounds like he loves spending time with you."
Joanne hated to admit it but Patricia's theory was beginning to make sense a little. It would explain why Cory's wishes had to do with her sticking to him 24/7. "So?"
Patricia grinned. "So you're being stubborn. You like him. He likes you. Just tell him that and end this stupid fight."
Joanne bit her lower lip. "It's not that simple."
And truth be told, it wasn't. Minus the diary and wishes from the equation, Joanne and Cory wouldn't even be a thing. They probably thought that they were into each other because they spent so much time together.
"It is that simple! Joanne just tell him. Tell him how you really feel."
How I really feel? Joanne asked herself. There was no two answers to this question. She felt nothing for Cory Williams. All it was, was an infatuation.
"You're right, maybe I will." Joanne faked a smile and leaned against the wall adjacent Patricia's bed.
Patricia's smiled satisfactorily. Just then did she realize she had never had a heart to heart talk with Joanne before. They never even got along. "Hey, this. I'm pretty sure this has never happened before."
"Yeah. It's weird isn't it?"
"Not really. Truth is I feel like we would have been really good friends if we had one thing to talk about, just one."
