Every year 23rd April is celebrated as World Book and Copyright Day. The day is commemorated to honour various writers and to honour both the birth and death of William Shakespeare.
It was on this date in 1616 that Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. The day is also the date of birth or date of death of various other prominent authors such as; Maurice Druon, Halldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.
Also known as International Day of the book, there is an annual event organised by the UN promoting Reading, publishing and copyrighting.
Reading and writing are two of the most cherished activities, known to bring different cultures together and teaching important life lessons through simpler tales. In the times when most of the things are on hold and all of us are forced to stay in, novels can be and are a great companion.
Books are like a window to a different world, a vector of escapism, giving a way out of the regular cat and mouse chase.

Further UNESCO created this day as world copyright day which gained a large number of participants over the years.
