India. A land of diversity, and different cultures, and unique lifestyles. A place where everyone is different, and knows the world differently.
And yet, we are not divided.
Diverse, but unified. Contrasting cultures, in harmony. Unique, but toget...
Picnic. This single word holds thousands of memories. Friends, food, family, school, yellow bus and lots of fun.
Those soft breezes hitting gently on your sweaty skin, running around on a bright sunny day and laughter echoing from every side pretty much sums up my knowledge of picnics.
Now, we have a day to celebrate sunny June weather. But what was the need to internationally put this day in the calendar under the list of holidays. When we have weekends ,though those weekends have already been replaced by pending assignments and piled up work, which is never ending.
The word picnic got its origin from the french language, specifically from the word 'piquenique'.It was believed that having a meal out, became a common pastime activity in france. This became a popular activity after the French Revolution in the mid 1800s where picnic itself was enjoyed in royal parks.
However, even though it was a pastime activity ,through the years it was seen carrying out important gatherings for political protest. One of the most famous of these political picnics was the Pan-European picnic that took place in the summer of 1989 at the border of Austria and Hungary.
More recently, in 2009 Guinness book of world record, recorded a massive gathering ,picnic, of 20,000 people in Lisbon, Portugal.
And now we have an international day to celebrate picnics, internationally, every year on 18th June putting it in the list of made-up holidays.
But as we look in our lives that are already burdened with work, spending time with family is in itself a luxury which we all crave for. Even when we are with our friends and family how much do we actually talk, the answer to this is blurry because those memories have been tainted by our phones which are 24×7 with us.This day encourages people to go out and enjoy a hearty meal in nature, with people's company you enjoy.
But COVID-19 has ruined all plans of going outside. But hey, hold on don't put a break on that fun just spread a blanket in the middle of your living room. Maybe, create a pillow-fort , same as in movies and enjoy this time with your family.
A gateway to happiness is always needed in life. So, don't hold yourself back and just make a list of things you'll do next time you plan for picnics or better put that list in use for your indoor picnic.
