It may seem strange
For around my peers
I seemed more than okay
But when it came
To talking to adults
It made my knees start
To shiver and shakeSomething about their presence
Made me want to hide
For they towered over me
Making me feel smaller;
Smaller than an ant's size
For even saying "hi"
Made me want
The floor to open up
And swallow me whole
So that I could
Cry aloneSomething about meeting strangers
Of any age and height
Have taken a turn in the tides
It made me begin to realise
I was not
Simply just shy
