To conclude our princess day, we have an after dinner tea party. It's fully decked out with balloons hanging just beneath the ceiling, pitchers and teacups laid out upon the table, and little sugar cubes in a glass bowl in the center. The "princesses" have had a wonderful afternoon and I've had fun, it hasn't been too crazy (we've spent a lot of time watching movies despite Cailyn's short attention span) and nothing has made my day more than seeing their happy faces. Both girls have requested a lot of milk and sugar in their tea and I admit that I put a good deal into my cup as well. I don't know how the British drink this stuff when it tastes so...bland. But then I was raised with sweet tea being the only kind of tea that I really knew about so I can't really talk. We sit around the table making small talk about the weather, something the girls must have picked up from a movie. We sip our tea slowly and primly. Cailyn nearly spills some on her dress and after that I give them both some paper straws (they're so cute) to drink with instead, to minimize any messes that could occur.
I've asked if Tessie can spend the night, but so far Liam hasn't replied to my text and neither has Paddy. While Liam used to check his phone constantly and be very prompt about replying, he's declined slowly until now, where he barely responds. I've started using Paddy as a go between to convey my messages. While he's not as fast as Liam used to be he usually owuld have replied to me by now, which makes me worry slightly. I've assumed that Tessie is staying since if they were coming to pick her up they're quite late. We finish our tea and put on yet another movie to enjoy. Our little nest on the floor has spread out and we've each created our own little space where we've made things comfortable. Cailyn lies on one side of Tessie and I on the other. Cailyn plays quietly with the stuffed-toyed animals she's stolen over to her side of the nest while the movie rolls on. Tessie watches, enraptured with the story and holding onto my hand loosly, almost as if she's making sure I stay with her. I smile down at them as I settle myself.
How could I have been blessed with two angels like these two? Yes, they have their moments of stubbornness and disobedience, but they're so good the rest of the time. Yes, they have energy but they're quickly outgrowing the stage where it's unbridled and they have to jump from one activity to another. They're learning to focus and be able to devote their attention to something for longer. I never believed it when my mother said that these weeks and months and years would fly by, but already my baby girl is five years old! And Tessie has become part of the family too, it's amazing to see her develope interests and dislikes. It's a privilege to watch both of them grow up. I fantasize about how they might look one day, when their going off to school at age 8 or learning to drive at 15...they have their lives ahead of them. And I'll be damned if I can't make it the best that I can...for Cailyn and for Tessie, however long I have her for.
Paper straws on the side because they're kawaii AF okayyyy? xP
I've had a good day, how about you?
Leaving feedback (comment/like) would make my day even better so if you feel like doing it, YAY!
