It's a about a week and a half later that I finally hear back about the nanny job. It's not even Liam that calls me though, it's Sophia's personal assistant or someone like that. She informed me that after being reviewed thoroughly I'd been deemed the best person for the job and that there is an email waiting in my inbox with more information and a contract that I will need to print out and sign. I hung up the phone and let out a sigh of relief. I had managed to distract myself as best that I possibly could, but it felt like it was hanging over me. So the rest of today I've been hard at work, reading through this contract. It's not necessarily as simple as signing the dotted line either. Oh no, there are things to fill out and I've never been the person to blindly sign or agree to term and conditions without at least skimming over what they are. And while this contract isn't very large, it's still thick and takes me most of the afternoon to skim through the majority of it. Luckily I had taken Cailyn to the park this morning and she got exhausted and napped most of the afternoon. Now, as I set the contract down and smile up at her, she shuffles into the room, rubbing her eyes and yawning.
"I'm hungry mommy. Where's my food?" I grin and lead her over to the kitchen where I make a quick meal for the two of us. It's then that I realize I should probably tell her about the job.
"So, mija, you remember Theresa, ¿sí?" She nods slowly, still chewing her food and not even bothering to look up at me from her plate. "Well," I say, trying to think of a way that I can explain my new job and what it will mean in a way that she will understand. She's a smart girl, but she's also still four. "you know how mommy likes to do her work at home?" she nods "Theresa's mommy can't work at home so she needs someone to watch Theresa and play with her and make sure she eats and takes a nap, things like that. It's called a nanny or a nurse or something like that usually. So Liam thought that I could watch Theresa while Theresa's mommy is so busy. So she's going to start coming over here to stay in the morning and afternoons. And you two can play and watch movies and dance. How does that sound?"
"Ok." she replies, shrugging her little shoulders and taking another bite of her dinner. I roll my eyes and figure I'll try to explain it to her again later, maybe a few more tries and she'll understand it well enough. Not that I think that she wouldn't get along. She seems to play with Theresa great. I just don't want her to think that I won't have time for her anymore or that Theresa is somehow going to be taking over our lives. Children get jealous easily...and often for the silliest reasons, but that doesn't mean it's any less of an issue. I never want Cailyn to feel unloved or like I don't have time for her. That's the thing I would hate to happen. In my mind it's the worst possible thing that could happen to a child. Or anyone. I try to brush off these dark thoughts and continue on with my meal, but the entire night it's like a weight hanging over me.
Later on that night I email back saying I've filled out the contract and signed it. A very formal reply informs me that I start tomorrow and whoever drops Theresa off will also pick up the contract. I raised an eyebrow at this, I had assumed that Liam or Sophia would be dropping Theresa off. But this makes it seem as if one of their assistants or bodyguards would instead. I frown and shake it off as reading between the lines too much.
I collect all the loose papers from the contract and stack them, trying them up with some string I found and leaving the bundle on the kitchen counter. There were certainly some interesting conditions that I've agreed to. Obviously there are the rules of confidentiality, don't tell the paparazzi where the Paynes live or anything about the daughter, don't release pictures, don't tell family, do not question the young Payne about her home life or things regarding her parents' careers, etc. etc.
A long list of "don't"s. I read them all, took notes on some of the odder ones I felt like I might forget. Like how I'm not supposed to mention the word "porcupine" and how I'm never to feed her okra. Who even eat okra anymore? I mean we're in LA, not Alabama, or somewhere deep south of the country. And then there was the entire page dedicated to Louis... The contract also made it very clear that breaking contract or any of the conditions listed in it would cause me to be fired quite quickly and that if I fought back or tried releasing information to the tabloids I would be ruined. Needless to say I felt very strongly about obeying the rules now. It also made me wonder about Theresa's last nanny. Was she fired or did she quit? And if she quit....why?
So what do you think? Did you think that there would be so much security and legal work? Do you think there could be an issue when Theresa finds out that Cailyn has a stuffed-toyed animal named Roger who is a porcupine? Lemme know by leaving a comment and please vote as well! ^-^
