"So, what questions did you have?" Liam asks, watching my calmly as I take a large bite of my waffle. I hold up a finger and chew and swallow quickly.
"Well I wondered, what sort of movie preferences you had, discipline instructions as you already knew, how much you would like me to push the potty training, I wanted to run a few meal ideas by you, and er, if you had any educational games you wanted me to play with her or show her. Nothing extreme, just colors and letters if you wanted. In case you wanted to put her into a preschool in a year or two. If not, that's fine too. I'm a strong believer in children learning at their own pace."
"I trust your judgment on the meal plan and movies, just whatever you would want for Cailyn will be fine." Liam says after thinking for a moment "I think that perhaps in a few months we can start some more educational games and shows, but for now just let her play. Push for her to use the toilet whenever you can, it will be so much easier once she's learned. Uh, what else was left?"
"Disciplining is the only other thing I can think of right now." I should have prepared a list of everything, not a mental one that can very easily slip from memory.
"Right, I have prepared myself for this the best I can, give me a scenario please."
"Say that she wasn't very sleepy one day and refused to go in for a nap? Or didn't want to leave the park or there was a scuffle over a toy. I don't think that she's the type to scream and throw a tantrum, but I can imagine she might be very stubborn. Just sitting down somewhere, not saying a word and not obeying. And I want to know what to do in that case, where she's disobeying and it will become a bad habit if I don't show her that she can't act that way." he winces as I finish. "Not completely ready were you?" I comment.
"No, no I wasn't." he rubs his jaw, which is covered in stubble. "Ah, alright, what would you do if it was Cailyn?"
"I would spank her or take away a certain privilege."
"Oh. Spanking." he winces again and uncrosses his legs to switch to the opposite leg. For some reason my mind runs down a dirty path and I feel my cheeks heating up. "Spanking..." he mutters again. I turn away and focus on the girls' giggles coming from the kitchen.
"Yes, spanking. Never more than three times though. I don't think scaring children really helps. Just a slight shock. I would never hurt Cailyn. Or Theresa."
"Of course!" he snaps his gaze up to meet mine. "But let's stick to taking away her movie time or not allowing her to have dessert or a certain toy, and if those don't seem to work then we'll talk again."
"Great, thank you. Did you have any concerns or questions about our routine or how I'm doing things?" I ask, hoping that he will say he doesn't but anticipating that there will be something.
"Ah yes actually," I hold my breath as he finishes "it's about the routine. I was wondering if I could maybe bring Theresa over a tiny bit earlier? She barely eats at home now, preferring to eat here. I thought we may as well commit to it since she seems to want to."
I laugh a little and nod "Of course that's alright, that may even work better. I worry that she'll stuff herself and throw her other meals off by eating two breakfasts. Is there anything else?"
"Not at the moment, Soph and I are both happy with how things are working and Theresa seems much more attached to you than her previous nannies. Everything is going great." he smiles and stands up. "I've got a meeting to catch in an hour, so I'd better be off. If you have any more questions, or little ones anyway, how about you text me? I usually have my phone on me at all times."
"Good idea. Thank you for making the time to stop and chat." I see him off at the door just as the girls come out of the kitchen.
