Daniel's POV
Seeing her standing there looking so hurt crushed everything inside me. I had tried to keep her from seeing that side of me because I knew, she'd never look at me the same.

I had chosen her over everything I owned, over my own life, that's how much I loved her, but I still managed to screw up.

*Flashback*

~One year earlier~
"Daniel" my aunt called

"What do you want?" I asked, uninterested

"Is that how you greet your aunt? Did they teach you no manners at all" she said, closing the door to my office

"Fortunately not. It's not like they'd be of any use in this family anyway.... What are you doing here anyway?" I growled out

"I'll try not to take much of your time. I was excited so, I decided to personally, deliver the message" she said, placing her bag on my desk and taking a seat, as my eyes followed her every move, "I see your conquest escaped" she said.

"That's non of your business" I hissed, rolling my eyes

#This was only hours after Athena had escaped

"Oh but it is Daniel. You see, you've slackened ever since you met that woman, and your godfather, is not pleased"

"Well I don't care about whatever pisses that man off" I said, getting up to leave

"I'd think about that very carefully Daniel" she said, as I continued to walk away, "You wouldn't want what happened to her brother to happen to her, now would you?" she said, halting me.

"You will not touch even a single hair on her head do you understand me" I hissed between gritted teeth

"I hope she won't be fussy. Her brother, oof, he was a handful for a child"

"ERITREA!" I shouted, "I swear to you, hurt Athena..." I said

"Ah, good, now we understand each other" she said, getting up, "Stay away from that leech and nothing will happen to her. You know very well what I'm capable of Daniel. And she is a pretty girl, we wouldn't want to damage such beauty. Imagine all the fun I could have with that pretty face-" she said, caressing my cheek, "-or better yet, all the fun my men could have with her" she whispered in my ear

Angry, I grabbed her by the throat, launching her onto my desk, chocking her.

"I don't give a damn whether you're my aunt or not, you know what I'm capable of Eritrea. Touch Athena, hurt her in ANY way, and I won't hesitate to send you back to your precious husband in freaking Mason jars" I threatened

I let her go and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind me, leaving her struggling to catch her breath. I wasn't going to allow her to hurt the woman I held so dear to me. She'd have to kill me before I ever let that happen.

Having followed my hunch, I went to Brady's looking for Athena, and I knew she was there, I could feel it.

I knocked on the door; no answer. I knew she was avoiding me. I knocked again, when the door flew open revealing some man.

He pushed me aside, and yelled at me to leave. Clearly he didn't know who he was talking to. Only fueling my anger more, but I never retaliated; Athena was right there. She already had a bad enough image of me, I wasn't going to add to it by smashing this wanna be hero's face in.
