BRIELLE

The cigarette sits between my lips as I hug my legs tightly.

The cold air brushes against my face as I rock back and forth on the bleachers beneath me.

Mixture of smoke and hot air creates a cloud around me as I blow out the smoke placing the cig in between my two fingers.

After being sent out in sex ed, the principal let me off as it was my first day back. Woo lucky me!

But he did say; 'If you do it again Miss Yves, I will not hesitate to put you in detention.'

Even though my point about the uniform was right, just because someone is on the football team or cheerleading squad they get the special treatment.

It's bullshit.

Inhaling the smoke again, I blow it out seeing someone making their way over from the corner of my eyes.

I watch as a blonde comes into view, wearing the cheer uniform. The red and yellow crop top and tiny skirt along with a pair of white trainers.

Her hair is pulled into a low ponytail as two curtain bangs frame her face.

She holds onto her bag as she makes her way into the row below me, perching herself a few feet away and sending me a smile.

It stays silent for a while, the only sound is me blowing out every few minutes. The girl watches, keeping her eye on the cigarette constantly.

She breaks the silence, "What you did back in sex ed was cool."

I laugh a little before responding, "Says the one wearing the cheer costume."

Her body shakes a little as she laughs before shaking her head vigorously.

"Doesn't mean I can't praise you for finally sticking up about the crap uniform," She shrugs keeping her eye on the cigarette in my fingers.

Her eyes glimmer before she turns away staring onto the football pitch.

"I'm Kenzie by the way," The blonde spins to face me, leaning her arm on a bench.

"Brielle," I nod before sucking in the smoke again.

"I know, the whole school knows, your like shit popular," Kenzie laughs before taking a deep breath.

"Besides, I hate fucking cheer, all the pom poms it's a load of bull," She adds, looking out on the field.

"Leave it then," I deadpan, resting my arm over the leg pressed against my chest.

"It's harder than you think, and I am not dealing with that whole group hating me for the rest of junior year," I chuckle at her.

"I dealt with it, and look at me now," I shrug my shoulders, holding the cigarette in the air as I pick at my bottom lip.

It's a habit I've had since I was a little kid, my brother says it's an addiction now because I can't go a whole day without taking it.

But he doesn't know anything about addiction.

I pass the cigarette to the blonde who instantly looks between me and the small burning stick in front of her face.

"I've been trying to stop, but it's a lot easier said than done," She admits blowing the smoke out.

Her hand reaches for mine as she passes it back, watching as I press it into my lips and inhaling the smoke.

"Been there done that," I cough out, shaking my head. "I gave up after a while."

"Don't blame you," Kenzie speaks while taking the cigar out of my hand again. Her eyes stay on the pitch ahead of her, mostly on the cheerleading bit.
