Description :

Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie Peter Pan, the mischievous boy who refuses to grow up, lands in the Darling's proper middle-class home to look for his shadow. He befriends Wendy, John and Michael and teaches them to fly (with a little help from fairy dust). He and Tinker Bell whisk them off to Never-land where they encounter the Red Indians, the Little Lost Boys, pirates and the dastardly Captain Hook.

NON-SPOILER SECTION

I like reading classic children literature, and Peter Pan is my favorite. Whether you've read the book or not, I'm sure you know this story already. Most of us have watched the movie adaptations so many times during our childhood. But unless you've read the books.. you might not know how dark the original story was.

After reading the book and noticing the dark undertones in it, I did some research and learned some very interesting and disturbing things about the origin of the story and the author's personal life

After reading the book and noticing the dark undertones in it, I did some research and learned some very interesting and disturbing things about the origin of the story and the author's personal life. Seriously you should look it up even before reading the book because knowing the backstory of it will only help you understand the book better.

For example in the movies Peter Pan is shown as this hero figure.. and you can't really see his dark side.. but the book dives deep into the concept of this eternal childhood of Peter Pan and the psychological elements of it. It talks about the inherent selfishness of children and there are a lot of childhood traits that Peter has that are borderline scary (I'll talk about that in the spoiler section so if you've read the book or you don't think you're ever gonna read it, go ahead and read this whole review) and my childhood is ruined after reading this book so now I'm recommending it to you guys so that I can ruin yours as well 💀
