You find yourself on an island in the middle of the sea, an island that isn't like anything you've ever felt -- except the Portal Through Time, the island is pulsing with spirits. Too many to count. It's enough to cause a migraine. Yet you keep pushing, keep moving forward until a shadowy figure appears in front of you.

"Father?" The man looks back at you with eyes laced in regret. "Why are you here? What is this place?" He continues to look at you until a figure appears beside him, Zei. "Am -- am I dead?"

"Heavens, no!" Zei says at last.

"No, not yet. Right now, you're more so in a state of perpetual limbo until you leave." Your father drums

"Where am I? Why did it pull me here?"

"Even I don't know that. Not for sure, at least." Zei mutters, "We were called here, to face you. This place can only be found by those with a strong connection to the spirit world."

"Something you don't truly have." Your father affirms, "So you shouldn't be here. Unless..." He trails off.

"Unless what, Father?"

"No, it's impossible. There hasn't been one in a hundred years." Your father mutters. Zei thinks for a moment before kneeling down to face you, his translucent face stopping a foot away from yours.

"Son, do you remember that night not so long ago? That old lady used bloodbending on you, and at first it worked, but then..." He looks at me, "But then it didn't. What did you do that night?"

"I guess I felt a pull and I followed it. A feeling in my gut. What are you getting at?"

Zei looks at me seriously, "Name the elements."

Your father steps forward, "You don't really think that he-"

"Shut it D/N!" Zei snaps, silencing your father. "Y/N, name me the elements."

"Water, air, fire and earth, right? What're you getting at?"

"That isn't all of them." Zei puts his hand on your shoulder, "I mentioned a fifth, Y/N, what was it?"

Your eyes widen, "I thought they were gone."

"Apparently not. I would congratulate you, D/N, but since you're so terrified of the truth, I'll congratulate him and myself instead." He looks at me like a father should his child and says, delicately, "Y/N, you're the last known energy bender and I couldn't possibly be more proud."

"You must be joking, this can't be real, I mean... can it?" You stumble over your words.

"It is, Y/N." Zei gives you the most serious look possible, "You can control the life essence of yourself and those around you. You allowing Toph to see wasn't light, that pull was from your vision. You can feel spirits and vibrations because they are energy, Y/N. Only those with unshaking principles and care for people can bend energy and not die themselves, that's why there hasn't been one in over three hundred years."

You look down, struggling to grasp this. After everything you've been through, everything you've suffered mentally for being a non bender in a family of great benders, you are special. You are important. You aren't just a bender, you're an energy bender. All of this presented by the one real father figure in your life, "I missed you, Zei." You feel tears start to form, "I missed you so much."

"I missed you too, kid. Don't die, it sucks."

"Why did you die? Why couldn't you stay?"

"Gut feeling." He admits, "I knew I had to go. I didn't choose the books over you, Y/N. No inanimate object in the world means as much to me as you do. I had to go simply because it was my time to go." You hug him and for a moment, he lights up in a golden light before simmering back down, He gives you another smile. "I'll leave you two to it." And he's gone, leaving just you and your Dad.
