An Investment in Entertainment

Dressed in my darkest gown and cloak, I slipped down the palace steps and out into the garden. I had walked these paths enough to know exactly where to go and how to stay hidden. I managed to the southeast gate without coming across any guards on patrol. Looking around, I tried to see Alastor's tall lanky form in the shadows.

"I was wondering if you would actually come," Alastor materialized from the shadows, his Cheshire smile glowing faintly in the moonlight. Biting back a gasp of surprise, I turned to find him not but a foot from where I had just been looking.

"I'm surprised you took an interest in court affairs," I replied, trying to regain some semblance of control. Alastor moved even closer until he was towering over me with that manic grin of his.

"Think of it as an investment in my entertainment," He said smoothly. I had no idea how I was to reply to that. On one hand, I was offended. On the other...I just wanted to survive.

"What do you have in mind?" I finally asked, taking a step back to put some distance between us.

Alastor gave me an elegant bow, "My dear, I will explain everything."
