Alastor's plan kept rolling around in my head throughout the next day. As I went through the motions of court life, I went over the plan time and time again.

It was a simple plan, but dangerous. And it hinged on a madman's compulsive behavior. Alastor was planning on setting himself up as a rival suitor for my hand. King Henry was not used to this kind of competition for anything, the court always let him win. Who knew what would happen if he felt like he was losing?

"(Y/N), did you hear me?" Lady Bethany, the wife of one of King Henry's favorite courtiers, raised her voice in order to catch my attention.

"Pardon?" I turned, surprised, towards her.

"I said the Queen's execution date has been announced," Lady Bethany frowned, her tone a bit nasty. She knew what this news meant to me and wanted to make sure it would sting all the more.

Giving her a withering look, I replied, "You should do well to mind your own affairs, Bethany. Last I heard, your husband was seen entering into a brothel with several gentlemen just a few nights ago."

Lady Bethany's voice turned icy, "No matter what my husband does, at least he doesn't leave a trail of wives in his wake."
