"Bullseye," the gruff voice of Sal came from behind Tommy after he fired the sniper rifle. "Doing better than your hermano."

"You remember the unload/reload routine I taught you, Tommy?"

"Bolt- Breach- Mag- Squeeze." He went through the motions.

"My old man left... when I was real young- five or six. My momma got real sick when I was about fourteen and passed on shortly after. It was a real bad disease she had. After that, it was just me and Joel. He had a girl and ended up gettin' 'er knocked up at seventeen. After the baby was born, the girl left without so much as a 'fuck you'. Then, it was Joel taking care of me and the baby,"

"What about you? Is there another family in the picture?"

"Did you see her die?" Sal asked suddenly.

Tommy whispered, "Well no."

Joel and I have settled down for a bit with Manuel Salvador- or Sal for short. He's one hell of an eagle's eye; hit the target's bullseye through a sniper rifle scope three times in a row- each bullet hitting the same hole as the last, and he's a fighter with his one leg and all. Says he was in a similar situation as I was. Sal's welcomed us, fed us, sheltered us, and taken to teaching us the works of a gunslinger and a bit of self-defense too. He's a good man. He's given me hope in finding Jeanie; I just hope I can gain the confidence to go out and find her without Joel. Though, I believe knowing she's out there all alone is the only motivation I need. And as much as I hoped, I know Joel won't be coming with me-
