The two young mages raced through the violent thunderstorm arc at incredible speed. Ashwin was confident in his speed to a mid tier but Ashwin was quite surprised that the guy beside him could keep up with him, albeit barely.
Raghav had already charged his wind trail, magic boots and every speed boosts he could had to keep up with him. That too, when Ashwin was actually moving all around him to while, deflecting the bolts that were aiming them.
They have been running for just five minutes and they could have reached where they needed to by now if it wasn't for the thunderstorm. If it wasn't for all the adrenaline and elixirs, fatigue would have already set in by now.
"Ashwin, you should apologize to every wind mage around the world. What the fuxk did you mean your speed isn't fast enough?!", said Raghav.
"Well, for one, we still haven't reached the centre yet", Ashwin dismissed the question. "And don't even think I'd apologize"
Ashwin understood well that Raghav was talking nonsense to keep his head cool. After all, he too understood the fact that their magic reserves won't last long.
"Ashwin, we've got company "
"Not a friendly company it seems"
Ashwin replied grimming as he saw few head, the size of a man on the surface, slithering towards rather quickly.
"Thunder crown sea serpents!", Raghav was able to quickly identify them as he did his fair amount of research before the sea trip.
"Are they bad news?"
"Very!"
With that heard, Ashwin charged directly into the approaching monsters, in the number of atleast thirty. He clearly understood the fact that all of them were in fact warrior level, from the presence they gave off.
Warrior level requires atleast four mid tier to kill, generally. Ashwin had killed one before but that was because he had his Trump card and the field advantage
But judging from the but judging from the purple gem emitting sparks of lightning embedded on their black forehead, they were obviously creatures of lighting element. So it will come down to which side has more voltage.
"Asi, we are really dead in this situation. So do your thing fast!"
"I know. Just give me some time. Save your skin for a few minutes!"
"We don't have few minutes. If you haven't noticed, I am not alone hear!"
Ashwin yelled telepathically. But didnot get any response. And he was too busy, pushing away all the warrior levels charging towards them
Raghav also wasn't half bad. Despite his lack combat experience, he had incredible survival instincts. He was able to quickly react to sudden ambushed and his hlcontrom over the wind was flexible enough to allow him to jump over the heads of the serpents who were trying to gobble him up in one go.
Ashwin was attacked by serpents from behind, which he noticed, but was already engaged by countless serpents from the front. He kicked the head of one of them, launching himself into the air, doing a summersault, and plunged him sword into the skull of the serpent right below him.
But even then, he couldn't protect himself properly from various bites that followed. He struggled. His body could clearly feel the numbness getting infused into him, despite his resistance and healing.
The serpents were now constants charging their own skin with lighting and wrapped around Ashwin who was completely trapped.
Shadow magic was useless when there was no shadow. He had already tried stunning them with his eyes but didn't work.
Raghav, who had already run out of every devise he had and already ran out of magic was now trapped himself within a light dome. It was the last piece of magic equipment on him. He wanted to pull Ashwin in, but they weren't close to each other to even hear
But even this shield was too useless as it won't last forever. To top it all of, the formation they made was down and the storm was started close of the exit.
The serpents weren't immune to lightning. They simply surfaced because of the lack of lightning. Raghav understood that Thunder crown sea serpents would stay under water to absorb the lighting from the storm. But he didn't consider the possibility they would be here. Heck he wasn't even aware of the fact that they would be running into the storm in the first place!
Now he was going to lose his life due to the lack of their awareness and over confidence. He cursed himself. His rotten bad luck. His own poor judgment.
He was mad at the guy who's body was being dragged underwater. He knew this was all his fault. If this guy hadn't been so overconfident, if he had done his research, if he just didn't bring this thing up in the first place...
But despite all this, Raghav couldn't bring himself to curse him. He couldn't find satisfaction from the fact that this guy would die before him, or in a painful way.
All he could do was wait for the inevitable.
"I'm pathetic..."
But then, he heard an explosion.
The ball of formed by the serpents exploded, blasting off the flesh all over.
A large black bolt of lightning shot into the sky, dying all the Silver in the sky black. There was no light. Just darkness. As the only source of light was dyed black, a view of darkness shrouded.
But Raghav could feel the violent fluctuations around him.
The sound similar to the shattering of glass was heard as his last line of defense was destroyed.
His body fell into the sea. Drained of his magic, Ashwin couldn't move freely. Be barely manage to remain afloat in the dark.
All this lasted only for a few seconds before the light was back. The lighting in the sky regained its silver color. Raghav could see again.
He scanned the area. Maybe due to the remnant of the fierce black lightning earlier, the lighting serpents didn't seem to be around him.
But he found the obvious source of the power already. It was floating motionless on the surface. Raghav wanted to swim towards the body but all his remaining strength was used to remaining up.
He had no idea what to do or how to survive. Despair fill his mind as he lost sense of his surroundings.
Due to which, he never noticed the giant black shadow cast below him. But by the time he did, the mouth had already closed with him inside.
