As I'm dashing through the crowds of people, I can hear his footsteps trailing mine. Fuck, I need to loose him, this is not good.
Lee is a pain in my ass for multiple reasons: One, he's self-obsessed and thinks he's better than everyone else; Two, he gets off on ruining my day: And lastly, he's intrusive. Lee would literally harass and pester me until he got answers to the hundreds of questions he was bound to ask about this situation.
I burst through the back doors and pause. Yes, I've escaped, but not for long. I hear the back door burst open, and I quickly duck behind some huge garbage cans. Great, first I ran into Lee, now I have to singe my nostril hairs with the stench of rotting food and what is most definitely dog shit. I can feel the warm mush beneath my ass.
A darkness suddenly shadows me and I look up, shit.
"Get up, you look pathetic curled into the trash like that, especially since you are just trying to hide from me." Lee says, and I scoff.
"Who says I'm hiding from you?" I ask with a pointed glare and a raised brow.
"What else would you be doing? Drug trade with the rats?" He smirks and my smug face falls, "Get up."
Reluctantly, I stand up. I'm slightly towering over him, which causes me to stare at the top of his head. His six-feet have nothing on my six-three. He is practically a dwarf. If only the volume of his voice corresponded with his height, low to the ground. Almost everything between Lee and I was directly contrasted, he had a head of beach-blonde hair, whereas I had dark - ironically - raven hair. He tilts his head up and his deep cerulean eyes meet my forest-green ones. Lee is as fair as the fucking piece of quiz paper our teacher hands us when she is in a bad mood, my complexion is darker and matches the colour of shit that is currently smeared on my ass at this current moment.
Lee dramatically sniffs at the air and I am already aware of what is coming; "Did you shit yourself?" These are the next words that come out of his mouth, along with a deeply disturbed look on his face.
"No, I did not." I turned and began to walk away.
"You totally did," he responds, and I can feel him smirking without even turning to look. "It's ok, we all have our bad days," he pauses and I dare a look back at him. "Yours just so happen to be every day," he says with a large smile.
Oh eat my dick.
"I will not."
Of course I said that out loud.
I continue to walk out of the alley and into the street. As I make it to the curb, I hear his shoes crunch against the gravel. "You've had your fun, now leave me alone."
He stutters slightly as if rethinking what he is about to ask, and I look down at him, "I- I just- Are you okay?" I send him a deadpan look and stick my hand out to hail a cab.
"Why wouldn't I be?" I say dully.
'Well- I- It's none of my business, but-" He stutters nervously, well that's out of character.
I am quick to cut him off already knowing where his rambling is leading, "you're right it is none of your business." The taxi pulls in front of me and I open the side door. However, before I can close the door, Lee sticks his head in.
"Wait-" He's getting closer and closer. I quickly shuffle back into the seat closest to the road.
"I think that's quite enough. Take a breath mint and get out of my face," I shove his face away with my hand and his head snaps away as he breathes into his hand, trying to smell his breath. I begin to close the door and he quickly snaps out of it.
"Ok- I'm sorry," he tries to shove his head back in, but the driver begins to accelerate. "Could you just- I swear to-" As the car is about to drive off the curb Lee flings himself into the car and slams the door behind him. I looked at him dumb-founded.
"What the actual fu-'' Before I can finish my sentence, his finger is against my lips. Is he- shushing me? I pull his finger from my lips with my pointer finger and my thumb, almost as if it is fungal. "Ok, that was unnecessary." I throw his finger back into his face and he huffs before brushing his clothes off.
"Well I was just going to-"
"You weren't going to do anything other than getting out of my taxi and leaving me the fuck alone!" I hiss back at him and he raises his brow.
"Are you done?" There is a beat of silence, "good. As I was trying to say, I'm not going to ask why you were there at the shelter, because frankly, it is none of my business." I must look as surprised as I feel, because he smirks a little. "However, I do want to offer you a place to stay if you ever need it. I have your instagram, so I will just DM you my home address."
"Thank you, but no thank you." I don't want him to see me as some stray dog that eight-year-old Lee wants to take home and cuddle next to the fireplace. I'm not homeless, I have a family. I just choose to visit the shelter when I would rather my family not see me beaten up.
"Too bad @theravensparks69 because you don't have a choice," there's a pause and then, "sent." He says with a grin and I smile back sarcastically.
"And... blocked!" I imitated blocking him on my - very dead - phone.
"Well, I wasn't going to mention it - because again, it's none of my business - but with all of those bruises, I think you should at least talk to someone." Oh great, now he thinks I'm being abused.
"My parents aren't beating me," I say with disgust and roll my eyes.
"Hey, I didn't say that, and I wasn't assuming anything," he defends with his arms raised at his sides. "I'm just saying, it's nice to have someone to talk to once in a while." The car comes to a sudden stop, and as I'm facing out the window I hear the car door open. I turned over, panicked, to see Lee hurling himself out of the car and slamming the door behind him without so much as a good-bye.
When I arrive home, I thank the driver, hand him the cash, and hop out of the car. I groan a little as I do. Damn my muscles ache. After unlocking the front door, I quickly survey the living and kitchen areas and sigh with relief when I realise my parents are at work. I open the fridge and grab out a water bottle. Taking a big gulp, I wipe my mouth and shut the fridge door, bringing the bottle with me as I head to the stairs.
"Where have you been?" I hear a voice from the couch and I jump, I thought I was alone. How long had she been watching me?
"None of your business, Delany. Bug off," I shoo her with my hand and she just stands from the couch with her arms crossed.
"You know, you worry them," she says in a disappointed tone.
"They're always worried about me, one night out isn't going to kill them," I dismiss her and head upstairs.
"You could at least tell them where you're going," she shouts from the bottom of the stairs as my foot hits the second floor. She sighs when I ignore her and head into my room.
I change into a pair of pyjamas and slouch into bed. I'm quick to plug my phone into the charger before I lie back with my arms resting on my stomach. What was Lee doing volunteering at the shelter? I thought he went to church on Sundays - at least that's what I overheard the boys talking about in the locker rooms.
I am torn from my thoughts as a bright light erupts from my left, I grab my phone from my bedside table and peer at the screen through the brightness.
