"You know what? There is a pride festival happening today that my son and I are going to, you should come with us!" Buck says as I rest my arms on my knees, crouching as I try to catch my breath.

"Um, I don't really know if I-" I start to say as I wipe the sweat from my brow.

"That wasn't a question, you're coming. You're young! You should get out more!" Buck exclaims heartily, and - as he has said - I have no option but to accept.

I sigh, "Fine, what time and where should I meet you?"

"How about I pick you up on the way? Eleven on the dot! You still live down by the butcher on Church Street?"

"For as long as I can remember!" I chuckle, grabbing my equipment and zipping up my bag. "I'll see you in two hours then!"

"You better dress the part!" Buck shouts as I turn and open the door to leave.

"You're pushing it as it is old man!" I yell back as the door slams shut behind me.

...What am I going to wear?

Robyn

"Rise and shine you sleepy motherfucker! It's nine am and you know what that means!" Scar yells loudly beside me and I groan before turning away from her and covering my ears. "We only have two hours until we need to leave for the festival! Two hours!"

Regretfully, I slowly sit up and look glumly at my overly-excited best friend. "Why is this festival on so early! Gay people don't do mornings!"

"Oh stop it with your stereotypes and get your fat ass out of bed!" Scar says pointedly and somehow I manage to throw my body out of my bed with no less force than that of a WWE wrestler.

"You think my ass is fat? That's the nicest thing I've heard out of your mouth all week!" I sarcastically exclaim.

"Can it Pigeon, get in the shower before I fuck your brother!" That's been Scarlet's new thing for a while, she thinks it's the funniest fucking thing in the world that she can call me by a random bird's name, since my name is also a species of bird. She disregards completely that it's spelt differently.

"You've been there and done that, it's old news now Scar!" I call back as I reluctantly head into the bathroom to shower, grabbing a towel and a change of clothes on the way.

"You're old news bin chicken!"

Ouch. Anything but a bin chicken...

Ten minutes later and I'm out of the shower smelling like lime and coconut! I throw on a simple pair of denim shorts and a white t-shirt, Scar is holding a rainbow skirt and fairy wings as I step out of the bathroom.

"You know you have to put them on, we're matching!" Scar says excitedly, gesturing to her own outfit. She's wearing both the tutu and the wings, as well as a sequined rainbow butterfly shaped top and a pair of rainbow bedazzled flats!

"I don't think I would ever be able to top your outfit!" I huff out honestly.

"Of course you can't, darling! But that doesn't mean you won't also look good after I'm done with you!" She gestures for me to put on the tutu and wings before ushering me to my desk chair.

"The tule on the skirt is a little scratchy," I admit as Scar approaches me in the chair with a makeup palette.

"You'll be fine once you stand up. Ok, close your eyes."

And thus and hour and a half of stereotypical highschool movie makeover-esque torture begun.

"Ok, I'm done," Scar says, pulling me up from the chair and rushing me over to the full-length mirror in the corner of my room.
