chapter 7

Vera

(when Vera talks to Wilhelm about her dad)

Sitting in my room with my lights wrapped around my chest, looking at pictures of Simon thinking how lucky I am to have another chance. I cannot fûck this up.

Mother comes to my room and tells me we need to talk and there is someone I need to meet. I think I know what it is. More so who.

Heading down to the foyer I hear a voice that i've never heard before. I see a girl with red curly hair and dark blue eyes. I know what this is.

"Wilhelm this is Vera. She is going to be your girlfriend and will start living at hillerska with you." my mother explains to me

"You can't possibly do this to me! I don't like women! I've told you how many times! I want to be with Simon!" I yell back

Vera is just standing there, I can see it in her eyes that she feels bad for me and wants to leave.

"Don't you dare talk to me like that! I am your mother and I say what you do! From now on you will not be talking to Simon. Vera will make sure of it!"

"you sure aren't acting like my mother" I said under my breathe.

I ran to my room to call Simon about what just happened. I can't loose him again.

Vera runs after me.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" I yell at her, my eyes fill with guilt for what I just said and I proceed to slam the my bedroom door.

As soon as my door is closed I pull out my phone to call Simon but instead I start having a panick attack.

I start rubbing my chest but it's not working. I grab a pillow and scream. I scream as loud as I can but the pillow contains almost all the noise.

she heard my scream.

"Wilhelm! please let me in! I need to talk to you!" says Vera

"NO! LEAVE ME ALONE" I say, breathing heavily

"Wilhelm? Are you okay? Wilhelm?" she bursts into my room

Shit.

Im on my knees crying, rubbing my chest with my face into a pillow so my screams don't echo.

"Wilhelm I need to tell you something." said Vera

"WHAT? What do you want? What could you possibly have to tell me?" "i'm sorry" I scream but then lower my voice as I see the trauma in her eyes

"I'm gay, I don't like men. My dad has been mentally and physically abusing me at home ever since I came out to him. When my father heard about the queens offer he accepted and I had zero say in it" She explains

"I'm so sorry Vera."

"He calls me things like f@got and he... i'm sorry" she starts tearing up

"you don't have to explain anything Vera. I'm sorry." I tell her

"It's okay, I have a plan that could possibly work out for the both of us. I think you and Simon are a very cute couple and you don't deserve any of what your mother is putting you through." she tells me

"Thank you. By the way, you don't deserve what your father puts you through either." I respond

"Thank you. That means a great deal." She smiles and lets out a small giggle

"Alright, so my plan is that we act like boyfriend and girlfriend around your mother and my father, but at school we can be who we choose. How does that sound? Of course tell Simon everything so he doesn't get mad at you" Vera explains

"That sounds perfect, I was going to call him when I came to my room, but well, you saw how I was having a panic attack."
"Do you know anyone at Hillerska? Anyone special" I respond

"I do actually, there's this girl. Madison."
"We met when I went to look around Hillerska, she's so beautiful. We have been talking ever since and I really like her" she tells me

"So that's who you are! Madison is very nice, and talks about you loads! She and her friend Felice have been there for me through everything"

Vera looks worried

"But don't worry Vera. Madison isn't interested in Felice. She only has eyes for you. Trust me." I reassure her

"Now let's call that boyfriend of yours!" says Vera
