"Mama?" You knocked on her door and twisted the doorknob, walking in and closing it behind you, "their gift ceremony is going to begin."

You thought that you'd get one younger sibling. Whether they be a boy or a girl didn't matter to you. But having triplets as siblings? That was a lot to handle at once. You knew how stressed your mother was and tried your best to keep everything in order despite being a ten-year-old. Sometimes Alma wasn't around and you were in charge of three toddlers.

"I'll be out in a bit." Alma had a shawl wrapped around her shoulders. You recognized it as the article of clothing she'd keep whenever she was stressed or unhappy. "Where are your siblings?" Her dull voice rang in your ears as she spared you a small glance.

"Pepa and Julieta are sitting under the stairs. Bruno is in the nursery. He's still getting ready." You were all set for the ceremony even if it wasn't your own. Your tie was appropriately taut, your shoes were nice and clean while your sleeves were rolled.

"Help Bruno, we all know he can't do things on his own." Alma stood up, ushering you out of the room. "I'll be there soon, okay? You're doing a great job with all of this. Make sure the three of them are ready. Tonight has to be perfect."

"Right," you remembered the day you got your gift. It was within the first few days of coming to this encanto. You remembered the way your mother smiled, holding your little siblings in her arms from afar. That smile she wore was significantly forced. At the time, you didn't see it, but as you look back at the memory, you caught that detail.

"Bruno!" You called out, walking over to the nursery and knocking on the door. When there wasn't a response, you put your ear against the wood. "Hermanito~" you chimed, opening the door and looking around the tiny room.

You noticed the boy looking out the window, taking slow yet prominent breaths. You walked up to him, watching him jump a little. "How did you get in here?"

"I opened the door," you chuckled, turning him to face you as you fixed the collar of his shirt.

   "Oh, sorry."

"Hey," you playfully hit his arm. "What did we say about unnecessary apologies?"

Bruno scratched the back of his neck, turning away, "sorry."

"Hey!" You hit him again, only this time a little harder.

"M-My bad-- or-" he groaned and covered his face with his hands.

You couldn't help but laugh out loud at his fragile state, bending down to tie his shoes. "Come here," you sat down on the bed and pulled a chair over. "I'll fix your hair, it looks like a mop."

"That's not very nice," he whispered, taking a seat on the wooden chair.

"You excited?" You took a brush and gently ran its bristles through his curls, spraying the hair a few times with water to separate them easier.

Bruno shrugged, "are there going to be a lot of people?"

"The whole town, so..." you imitated his shrug. "I'm sure it isn't that much."

"The entire town?" Bruno groaned softly, "that's too many."

It wasn't that much compared to what the town used to be. Before the encanto and before... the attack. You never spoke of it. Bruno and his sisters don't remember and they don't have to know about it.
