Kimberly's POV

My mom always told me if you see someone in trouble for me not to approach the situation, call the police, and make noise to scare the attacker away. I’ve always kept that note in the back of my head especially on the days I would leave work after 10pm, but for some reason tonight I would forget ever hearing that advice my mother told me.

It was a regular night for me, with me closing up the clothing boutique after 10pm. I have done this many of times by with others to the point that after the 4th or 5th time I was comfortable doing it by myself. I was walking to my car digging in my purse looking for my car keys, humming along to ‘Give me your hand (Best Song Ever)’ by The Ready Set, when I heard glass break. Turning my head around I began searching the parking lot, but I didn’t see anyone else around.

My car was the only car in the lot. I figured I was imagining things until I heard glass break again, but there was a noise that followed which sounded like a grunt of someone being hit. I threw my purse in my car gripping my keys as I grabbed a crowbar from my backseat. I slowly walked to the alleyway near where my car was parked. As I slowly stepped forward I could make out 3 guys standing over another guy who was lying on the ground. I froze not knowing what to do.

My purse was in the car which meant so was my phone, security only passes by ever hour which meant they weren’t any help. I leaned against the wall trying to figure out what to do. I jumped as I heard one of the guys yell,

“Have you had enough bitch? Or should we just keep beating the shit out of you!” I peeked around the corner to see one of the tall figures kneeling down on the ground in front of the guy who he was beating up as he gripped the guy’s hair pulling his head up so the guy had to look at him.

The guy moaned as he moved his head, he then chuckled saying, “That’s what you been doing? I thought we were making plans to have tea.”

The guy holding his head slammed his head to the ground pulling it back up, “You think this is a game? I’m not doing this for fun!” the guy on the ground laughed again and mumbled something I couldn’t understand, that’s when the guy punched him square into his jaw, the guy stood walking over under a light as I saw his face. He was tall, and had brown hair; he smirked as another guy kicked the guy on the ground again. He then steps back in front of the guy taking another blow to his face.

I quickly turned my head, who the hell were those guys and why were they jumping that kid? I had to do something, I began pacing and gripping my keys tighter as I remember my car alarm.

I hated that car alarm so bad because it sounded like a police siren, which my uncle thought was cool when he installed it. I was happy as hell that I had to cancel my appointment to take my car to the shop to get it changed. “Thank god for once you’re actually useful.” I whispered to myself as I hurried and set off the alarm.

Peeking down the alley I saw the guys jump up and take off running. Once I saw their car speed out of the opposite side of the lot a few minutes later I cut off my alarm as I ran to the guy still on the ground.

Sliding to a fast stop I dropped to my knees, “Holy shit.” Escaped my mouth as I looked at the guy face. I went to touch his shoulder when he swung, I jumped back yelling, “Calm down! I’m trying to help you.”

The guy lowered his arm as I slowly took another step towards him. Just as I seen his shoulder muscles relax, he slowly looked at me, but I could barely see anything just a glare. He stared at me for a moment as I carefully grabbed his arm placing it over my shoulder as I slowly got him to his feet. Wearing joggers and a hoodie he was heavy and I could tell he was taller than me by the way he shadowed over me once I got him to his feet. I took a deep breath as I carefully started walking to my car. It took about 10 minutes but I finally had this stranger in my passenger seat. Closing the door, I quickly ran to the driver side and got in the car driving out of the lot.
