It had been 15 minutes after closing, Christian’s plane landed late so he told me to hang back 20 minutes while he ran home for a shower. Luckily I had to finish planning out the work schedule so I agree to wait. He texted me telling me he was on his way, so I told him I would meet him at my car. I had just walked outside locking up the store when I heard movement, I turned around scanning the parking lot. Since I saw no one I turned back to the door, a sense of déjà vu swept over me, as I hear someone step behind me and say, “Hello kupkake.”

I stopped moving, I shook my head and whispered, “No it can’t be?” as I turned around. There stood a guy about 6’0 brown short messy hair, he wore dark blue jeans and a black shirt. I looked up to his face his chin had a fair amount of stubble, he had a small smile that crept across his face, then I realized his radiant green eyes, I stepped back and said under my breath, “James.” As I backed into the door.

“How’s my favorite kupkake cutie doing?”

“What are you doing here James?” I asked gripping the keys in my hand tightly.

“Can’t a guy come see his favorite girl?”

Ignoring him I said, “I thought you moved to Miami or something, why are you here?”

He stepped closer, “I came to see you.”

My back was up against the door, “You aren’t allowed here. The restraining order said…”

“It’s been over a year, the restraining has now been annulled.”

How come I don’t know anything about this?! is what screamed in my head, had it really been a year since we went to court and I won my case to keep him away from me. “Well what do you want?” I asked him avoiding eye contact.

“I got a call a few weeks ago saying you’ve been hanging around with some guy. I thought I should swing into town and see things for myself.”

I moved to the side as he stopped me in front of the brick wall. “We aren’t together anymore James. I meant it when I said, I’m through.” I started to walk pass him when he grabbed my arm slamming me back into the wall and yelled, “No we’re finish when I say we’re finish!” I closed my eyes gripping my keys tighter. James brought up a hand to my face as I flinched.

He smiled, “Don’t worry I’m not going to hurt you.” running his hand against my cheek he laughed, “So what’s his name?”

I shook my head, “I don’t know what you’re talking about?”

He moved his hand as he carefully ran it through my hair. “Have you slept with him yet?”

I shook my head, “James I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Balling up a fist around a handful of my hair he slammed my head against the wall, “Don’t lie to me Kimberly!”

Tears began stinging my eyes as I yelled, “I’m not lying to you!”

He slammed my head against the wall again, “Tell me are you screwing him!”

I yelled, “No I’m not screwing him!”

He waits a minute then removes his hand from my hair, flattening the matted up mess he caused. “Why do you like to push my button Kimberly? You know I hate when I have to force things out of you.” I turned my head refusing to look at him.  Grabbing my chin he turned it towards him so I had to face him, “Now Kupkake you know I love you right?”

I didn’t answer. “Aw don’t be that way.” He went to kiss me and I turned away. Grabbing the sides of my face he forcefully pressed his lips against mine. I struggled but he didn’t give.  Holding me against the wall he went to move his hand to my shirt, I began fighting back hard. “No!” I yelled.

Placing a hand over my mouth he said, “Shut up!” he started to unbutton my top when I bit his hand. Once his hand was off my mouth I hit him in his groans with my knee and swung my keys. He stepped back a couple of feet as he looked at the cut I had made on his arm, “You psychotic bitch!” he yelled as I went to run for my car.

Pulling me by my hair he threw me back into the wall hard, I closed my eyes at the pain that shot through my head, everything went blurry as I slide down to the ground. Wiping the blood onto his shirt he went to come for me again when lights shined near where we were. Looking back at the parking lot he moves towards me again and said, “I’ll be seeing you real soon kupkake.” Getting to his feet he took off running in the opposite direction.

A car pulled up in front of me, I heard the door open as someone yells, “Kimberly!” I looked up but could hardly see anything because of the light that were shinning in my face. I heard running when I felt someone drop to my side. “Kimberly talks to me are you okay?”

I looked in the direction the question came from, waiting for my vision to adjust from the bright lights.  “Kimberly do you understand me?” My eyes seem to finally focus, even though it still was fuzzy I looked at the figure as I said, “Christian?” arms tighten around my shoulders, “Yes it’s me. What happen? Are you hurt?”

The pounding in my head increased, everything became hazy, “My head.” I said as I moved my hand to the back of my head. I felt something warm but wet on my fingers, bringing my hand back to look at it Christian yelled, “Fuck! We need to get you to a hospital!” I looked up at Christian who it looked like he was moving in warp speed and I could barely see him, as I said, “Christian can you stop moving so fast.”

“I’m not moving at all Kimberly.” Propping me up on his knees he says, “I need to get you to my car, do you think you can stand if I help you?” my eyes began to feel heavy as I shook my head, “No I don’t think so.”

Christian puts his arm under my neck and his other under my legs as I told him to stop, I can feel him look down at me, “What is it?” I wasn’t able to keep my eyes open anymore so I closed them and said, “Let me take a nap for a minute.”

Christian picked me up, “No I need you to stay up okay, at least till we get to the hospital.”

“Mmm just 5 minutes I swear.”

“I need you to stay up okay? Kimberly? Kimberly!” even though I could hear Christian calling my name, I couldn’t answer, everything began to get heavy. I could no longer open my eyes, it was like my mouth was tied shut, drowning out Christian calling my name the only thing I could hear was my voice saying that I needed to rest that it was okay. So fighting the feeling to move I just relaxed as I slowly drifted off to sleep.
