39. Bad addiction

You walk to you new neighbour who's now is smoking

"Hey,I'm Liam " he says to you. His voice had confidence

"Hi. I'm Y/n" you say in a sweet tone as you to get closer to each other. You were going to talk to him first but he kind of started the conversation.

He blows out his cigarette and puts it down on a ashtray
"Sorry just a bad addiction" he apologises. His tone now more fun

You just lightly laugh "it's good" you say " so you just moved here ?" You ask him making conversation

"Yeah and clearly so did you, haven't seen anyone in or out of that house in a long time" he says

"Oh no I've lived here for a some time" you tell him

"Ah I see. So what you just lock yourself in your house or ?" He jokes

You lightly laugh "No I was in Boston" you tell him

"Wow Boston that's far away from here" he says "you from Boston or ?"

"No Queens" you say

"No way so am I" he says all excited

"Wow that's great" you say exited. "What brings you here ?" You ask a bit curious. He looks like a very wealthy guy. His clothes all branded. He also a bit familiar but still not familiar. But he's nice so you keep talking to him.

"Needed a break from my past life" he says

"Everyone says that, what's the real reason" I say to him.

"Okay I'll tell you but don't make fun of me" he says

"I won't" you assure him

"How can I trust you ?" He asks

"Okay I pinky promise. I've never broken one" you say.

"Fine. I came here so I could start gardening" he says. He closes his eyes tightly thinking you'd be laughing

"Wow that's great" you say "especially cause you will have good weather all year around" you say

"Exactly !" He says "everyone kept telling me I was making a big mistake quitting my job"
He says

"What was you job ?" You ask. You knew it was a well paying job because of the way he dresses, but maybe. He might surprise you.

"I was a lawyer" he says

"Wow" you were impressed "if you don't mind me asking why did you quit ?"

"I had been doing it for years, got tired of it. My wife used to be home alone a lot" he says

"Oh so your married" you say a bit surprised.

"Was" he said

"Oh sorry" you say

"It's fine she cheated on me"

"Oh now I'm even more sorry" you said

"Enough about my divorce? What about you, anyone special ?" He asks

"Yeah I have a boyfriend who lives in Boston"

"Oh I see that's why you went there"

"Yeah" you nod with a smile

"So Y/n if you ever have time would you like to show me around ?" He asks you

"Certo" ('of course' in Italian I think)

"Grazie" (thank you)

"I got to get groceries, see you around" you say "bye"

"Bye neighbour" she says as you walk away

He's a nice guy.

You walk into town there you get fruits, egg, vegetables, milk, bread, pesto and more stuff.

You decided to stop by Marios shop and say hi and get a few painting supplies

"Hey Mario" you walk in "I was wondering if I could get some paint-" you instantly stop talking when you see who's right in front of you. Someone you really didn't want to see. Someone you thought had moved away.
"James ?" You look at him confused.

"Y/n your back" he says with a smile.

"What are you doing here ?" You asks

"We'll after we broke up I started exploring Europe and that changed everything. And now I decided to settle down here" he says

You look at him shocked

James travailing ? No way

"I thought you hated travelling" you say

"It has changed, I have changed" these word surprise you.
"And I'm sorry for everything I did. Now that I can't have you I'm really starting to miss you. But of course I respect you and don't want to bother you if you still hate me" he says

"I need to go" you walk out.
You were so surprised in the past few months he has changed a lot.
And now he lives here as well and work in Mario's shop you'll never get rid of him now. You were mad not in Mario and Juliana of course they don't know what James looks like. You were mad at James.

He really went from a bad-spoiled-toxic- dick to a guy who work in a corner shop

How long was I gone ?

You start walking back home. Your eyes on the ground. You bump into someone. "I'm sorry" you say not even looking who you bumped into.

"Y/n ?"
You look up it's Liam. "Is everything all right ?" He ask you.

Of course it is not. What would you do if you found out your toxic boyfriend moved into the same small town as you and works in a shop for the people you think as you parents. And you don't really like talking to them about the relationship with your ex so you can't explain why he should get fired.

Of course you can't say that to a total stranger you've only known for. A few hours. So rather then trying to explain you just say

"Yeah I'm fine" you try to convince him

"You sure ?" He asks

"Yup" you give him a smile then start walking back home.
