Chapter 12

Life was well, not bad and not spectacular, either.
Another week had passed and nothing impressive had happened, though.
Y'know, just classes. The ones that got the attention of your soul, even, the ones you didn't care about but cared enough not to fail, and the ones that made you sleep like a dead log throughout.
Reading and reading. Just normal me.
Normal, plain, boring me and my planned schedule, and no, I wasn't complaining.
I liked a pretty simple life.

I glanced through my notes quietly, feeling so stuck up in the library.
   Nope. Wasn't reading anymore.
I closed the book, exhaling loudly, and looked up, scanning faces in the library, absentmindedly.
I spotted a familiar blonde guy and I racked my brain trying to remember where we met.
         Yap... the rude guy's friend.
I guess I had been staring too long because he was now staring at me.
Oops. I frowned and turned away. A few seconds later, I glanced over my shoulder to see if he was still there.
I blew out my breath when I didn't see him.
I returned my gaze to my table and gasped loudly when I saw him standing on the other side.

He smiled and pulled out a chair.
"Hey. You're that pretty girl that almost got hit by a ball, right?"
   I nodded, embarrassed.
       "Hi,'' I muttered.
        "Hey.''
   He smiled.
        "I'm Jarvis."
      "Kesha."
I smiled back at him. He was carefree and playful, unlike his asshole of a friend.
"So, I'm guessing you've met my friend?''
He clasped his hands together, watching me carefully.
I frowned, rubbing my chin gently.
"Yes, and it's not something I would like to do again.''
  He chuckled.
       "Why's that?"
"Let's just say, your friend has some apparent issues with being nice.''
"He just has problems adjusting to strangers."
  He shrugged.
    I rolled my eyes, mentally.
Of course, he would defend him.
I shrugged, uncomfortable with the topic.
       "So, what are you studying?''
          "Anatomy. You?"
          "Medicine."
       "That's nice.''
  I glanced at my phone.
Five minutes to my next class.
  I packed my things, quietly.
"You do know he's not always like that?''
     "Hmm,'' I agreed, sarcasm obvious.
I stood up and he smiled.
"This has been fun but I have to go now.''
  He smiled curtly.
"Nice meeting you. See you around.''
"You too,'' I called over my shoulder.

                          *****

                  Miguel's POV

I took a long drag of the cigarette between my fingers, my eyes darting around the field.
Two girls walked past the bleachers and stopped when they noticed me staring.
They smiled, probably waiting for me to say something.

I released the trapped air in my mouth, still staring at them without so much as a blink.
They eventually got pissed and walked away.
I hated being here so much.
Everything was boring. The school. The girls. Everyone.
I was damn telling my old man to take me back to Spain if by next week I still didn't find here interesting.

     "Hey, man."
Jarvis slapped me across my back, picking a seat next to me.
I took another drag, counting silently.
     Five, four, three...
"Hey, guys,'' Donovan drawled, joining us.
"What's up, Chester?" Elias, the cheerful one among the group, clapped me on my neck, sitting down.
"Jarvis? Don? How are y'all doing?" Andrew, his twin, chimed in, taking a seat.
  They all exchanged handshakes.
I took one last drag, released it, and crushed the butt of the cigarette with my shoes, before turning to acknowledge them.
          "What's up?"
"I'm good." Jarvis rubbed his hands, smiling.
      "Cool."
Elias raised his hands in surrender when I glared at him.
      "I'm cool too.''
Andrew smirked when my gaze fell on him.
"Donovan?'' I prodded when he hesitated.
He shrugged nonchalantly and I ignored him, looking away.
"Well, are you?'' Jarvis pushed, always the caring one.
"It's just a girl," he muttered.
I glanced at him and smirked, amused.
"Seriously?'' I said when no one laughed.
Donovan had a forlorn look on his face.
  Wow...
"Okay, well is someone gonna tell me what happened?''

I glanced at Donovan, really interested.
I mean, right from high school, only three words would do the trick. And any unlucky bitch who happened to be stuck up would just have to pay the hard way when she found out we betted on her.
"She made me look like an idiot when all I told her was my name, saying some shit about stuck-up boys like me who loved having the female population lick my feet.''
I snickered but covered it up with a cough.
"Whoa. You're saying a girl said that to you?"
  I thought girls liked sex.

No girl would ever try that to me because I would have a million and one ways to pay them back until they were begging me on their knees.
"Okay, do you know her?'' Elias spoke up when we all kept mute.
       "Yeah...her name is Sasha...no, it's Kesha.''
    "Kesha?" Jarvis glanced at Donovan.
"Do you know her?'' I glanced at Jarvis.
" I think so." He shrugged.
    "Well, she's blonde,'' Donovan continued.
"Looks like a book freak. Medium height. Great body. Cobalt blue eyes.''
      "God." Jarvis groaned.
"I know her. She's studying medicine.''
  I glanced at him, amused.
"Well, are we betting on her?'' I snickered, finding this very amusing as I glanced at the others.
"Leave it, Miguel. She's not the type of girl to fall for such,'' Donovan mumbled, resignedly.
  I chuckled. Just amazing.
    "Drop it, Miguel," Jarvis grumbled.
" Do you like her?" I retorted.
"Hell, no." He raised his hands in defense.
          "Okay. Are you betting? Elias?"
  He shook his head.
      "Andrew?"
     "Thanks, man but I'm cool.''
  I chuckled, looking at Jarvis.
        "What about you?"
"I'm not interested,'' Jarvis snapped and I wondered if he had some attachment to her.

       "Seriously, no one?''
I glanced at Donovan again but he just looked away.
" I bet," I mumbled after some minutes, breaking the silence.
I let it sink in as they all looked at me, simultaneously.
"Miguel, are you crazy?'' Jarvis scolded.
  I shrugged.
"Now, can we just get this over with?'' I snapped wanting to be done with this as soon as possible.
"Okay, but the stakes here are high. If you get to fuck her and show us the video, you get forty thousand dollars but if you fail, you owe us forty thousand dollars.''
Elias declared, leaving no room for argument.
The others all stared, wide-eyed at him.
Prolly cause of the huge amount.
I was pretty surprised at the amount but still, that didn't deter me.
    "Okay, I'm in."
"You guys, this is a really bad idea.''
  Jarvis groaned.
"Whatever, the bitch's getting what's coming to her," I mumbled.
Any girl that pissed any one of us, pissed us all.

     "The bitch?''Jarvis glared at me.
"Does it occur to you you might have met her?''
"Met her? Trust me, I can't even stand her description.''
I seriously didn't know people with such personalities still existed.
Prudish, much?
Jarvis groaned loudly and looked away.
Well, I was doing it anyway. Just couldn't wait to see the unlucky bitch.
I turned my attention to the activities ongoing on the field, zoning out on the guys.
