I cut my cake, smiling widely.
Miguel dropped the glass in his hands and reached for me.
   "Wow. Thanks for all  ---"
Miguel's hands flew around my waist and tugged me closer before kissing me.
I broke away when deafening cheers erupted around us and buried my face into his chest, shy.
   God.
  I hated having an audience.
He chuckled and led me back to my seat.

Food was passed around and I ended up with chicken and rice dumplings.
  And wine.
A few minutes and glasses of wine later, my eyes drooped.
   I was beyond exhausted.
I felt Miguel's hands rest on my thighs.
"You're not eating. Are you tired?"
He glanced at me and I faked a smile.
      "Hi!"

A voice louder than a police siren cut through our conversation.
Miguel raised his eyebrows at her and I offered her a small smile.
"Hi, Kesha. Happy birthday. I was wondering, today's your birthday and you should dance! Could you do a number with Miguel, please?"
  My eyes widened.
In front of all these people?!

    "No," Miguel said bluntly.
"We were just about to leave!"
I glanced at the girl's crumpled face and sighed.
   "Ugh. Fine. Just one dance."
I stood up and smoothed my gown.
"What? Are you sure? You don't have to do this!"
    I nodded.
"I know. It's okay. I want to do this."
   I smiled, softly.

More cheers erupted as we made our way to the dance floor.
People moved, giving us space until we were the only ones in the middle of the room.
The lights in the room went off. Except the light zeroing in on us.
I could hear the faint sound of Christina Perry's A Thousand Years
"Warning. I have no idea how to dance." I chuckled.
"Lucky for you, I got us covered."
    Honestly, it was all him.
The steps. The sway. The twirls.

He held me out and twirled me around.
"How did you know how to dance?"
" When I was younger, my dad... my mum's husband was never around. It was just me and her. And she was always busy with work. So, we spent our free time going to dance classes."
He chuckled, his gaze darkening and I smiled softly.
    "Well, you dance wonderfully!"

I hummed, smiling as he dipped me.
He dragged me closer, pressing me against his chest.
   "Do you know this song?"
  I smiled heartily.
     "Very well."
      " You should sing, then."
I sucked in a breath, tuning everyone out and focusing on the gorgeous boy in front of me.
I closed my eyes as Christina's Perry chorus filled the speakers.

"I have died every day waiting for you. Darling don't be afraid I have loved you. For a thousand years. Loved you for a thousand years..."
I opened my eyes, slowing down as Miguel watched me with a hooded gaze.
"I have died every day waiting for you. Darling don't be afraid, I have loved you. For a thousand years. Loved you for a thousand more.  Darling love, I believed I will find you. Time has brought you to me, I have loved you. For a thousand years. Loved you for a thousand more..."

I paid no attention to anyone or anything because I couldn't. Not when I had Miguel watching my every move like I was going to disappear.
More cheers erupted as the song drew to an ending.
Miguel yanked me closer and brought down his lips on mine.
I held onto his shoulders. For support.
For life.  Because I didn't want to let go. Just yet.
He pulled back, realizing we were in public when noises arose from all corners and lights flashed all around us.

     Oh my God.
  "They were taking pictures?"
   I looked up at Miguel.
   He kissed me, again.
"You're exhausted, baby. Go upstairs and make sure no one is following you."
I nodded and pulled away before heading upstairs.
