A Year In The Life: a new beginning

Good surprise?

She exited the hotel and saw him leaning against a car waiting for her, he was in work pants and a collared shirt and looking around for her.

She walked over to him as he was staring off in another direction and then his attention was brought to her "Ace" he said with a smile

"Long time no see" she said taking him in for a hug and feeling his comfort

They entered his car "so I got us a table at the ivy" she nodded as her nerves built up

"Such a spontaneous visit, you had me worried" he said as he stared at her smiling

"Well I tend to keep people on their toes once and awhile" she chuckled softly

He started the car as their ride was silent. She didn't know what to say and he obviously didn't know what to say. She didn't give a true reasoning as to why she was here just, needing to talk.

They arrived and they entered the restaurant. They took a seat at their reserved booth and Rory placed down her bag staring at him but before she could say a word a waiter came to greet them

"a bottle of Chateau Margaux would be good" the waiter nodded and left before Rory could interject

"So you called and flew out here and you've said minimal sentences" she looked up to greet his eyes

"Well once I tell you, I think you'll get why" she said nervously and he looked at her

"What's going on Ace? Is it about the book, do you need a publisher" she shook her head

"I've only got 12 chapters down so, no" she said softly and looked at him "where's your fiancé?" She questioned

"Ace" he said

"Where does she think you are right now and who you are with?" He looked at her

"She's gone" he admitted

"Gone?" Rory questioned confused "she visiting family or"

"She moved back to Paris, she's gone... the weddings not happening" she felt less of a pit and more so buttflies now

The waiter came with the wine pouring them both glasses and leaving them the bottle and Logan took a sip while Rory just studied him

"Why?" She questioned

"Just wasn't going to workout" he simply answered

"But why?" She said again

"If I married her, we'd end up divorced and the scandal of a divorce would be costly for my family" he shrugged and took another swig of his wine

"So no other reason?" She asked and he looked at her and sucked in his lips

"Well there were other factors" he admitted "We weren't compatible, didn't love her" he mumbled "Just wasn't going to workout"

She took a breath in, she didn't realize she had been holding it "you okay?" he chuckled

"I don't know" she said

"Maybe the wine will take the ease off" she shook her head "come on you love this wine it's your favorite"

"I can't have the wine" she mumbled

"Sure you can" he said and she looked up at him shaking her head

"That important non phone call conversation Logan" she said and took a deep breath "the reason I am a non wine drinker" she paused "I'm pregnant Logan"

The words came up and she was surprised nothing else did. She closed her eyes immediately afraid to see what his face looked like and he felt his hand touch hers and she opened her eyes
